Jonathan Alder Junior High
April 1, 2022
Message from the Principal
JAJHS Families,
Good afternoon! I hope you and your family had some special time together during our Spring Break week!
It has been a busy first week back. As we have moved into the 4th Quarter, the 3rd Quarter grades are now finalized on Canvas. This week our students did an outstanding job showing responsibility during our first tornado drill of the year. Both grade levels took steps to prepare for classes for next year. We’re excited to cheer for our Destination Imagination team at their state-level competition on Saturday and our track team will participate in their first meet next week. It’s quickly moving into a busy time of the year!
Next week our students will begin their Ohio State Tests in ELA. You can help your child be successful by making sure they get plenty of sleep, eat a good breakfast at home or at school, and arrive at school on time next week.
Please be sure to review the important information in the newsletter to stay up-to-date about our building’s events and activities!
Sincerely,
Ryan Malany
Principal

Vaping Awareness
Part of our role in educating our students is to ensure they are acting in safe ways. We are providing the following information to educate our families and to equip you with resources to effectively discuss the dangers of vaping with your child.
Important Facts:
Vape pods contain harmful ingredients, including formaldehyde, propylene glycol, and acrolein, which causes irreversible lung damage. It’s not just water vapor, and it’s not safe.
Even the Surgeon General has established how dangerous vaping is. JUUL commercials and paid influencers will try to make it look safe, but it is not. Most vaping manufacturers, including JUUL, are owned by tobacco companies, the same companies that sell addictive cigarettes, which cause millions of deaths. These companies are now focusing their marketing efforts on replacing former cigarette customers with kids, by hooking them on e-cigarettes.
Vaping is smoking – one JUUL pod can contain as much nicotine as a pack of cigarettes. Your lungs will suffer the effects – maybe not today, but eventually. There are multiple cases in the news of kids having seizures from e-cigarette nicotine poisoning, experiencing vaping-related lung injuries, and even death. We don’t even know yet how bad this is going to be for your health long term. Over time, the chemicals in e-cigarettes will affect your attention span, memory and lungs. (lung.org)

LIFT Learning Center
LIFT Learning Center at D.N.A is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:30 to 4:30 when Jonathan Alder is in session. Students in grades 5-8 who need help with homework, test preparation, and reading are invited to come if they have work to do and agree to wear a mask while at LIFT. Students who don’t normally ride the bus to the old elementary school (D.N.A Building) should have a note from their parents stating that they are allowed to attend LIFT.

Reminders from JAJHS Office
Medications at School
Sometimes parents ask that school personnel administer medication to their child during the school day. When this is necessary, we require written permission and instructions from the parent and in some instances from the doctor.
The required form “Distribution/Student Use of Medicines/Medications” must be completed and turned in to the junior high office with the medication to be administered.
School Fees
The school fees for 7th and 8th grade can be paid online using MyPaymentsPlus or you can bring cash or check to the school office. The fees are $30 per student for the 2021-2022 school year.
