How do I know what is going on at Banner?

Make sure you are keeping up with the weekly video announcements as that is the best way to stay on top of what is happening at Banner! It's also a great way for you and your student to have a conversation at the dinner table!

School Improvement Day and End of Quarter!

On Friday, March 6, students will be dismissed at 11:15 AM as teachers have a school improvement day planned. Please make sure you have daycare arrangements secured.

This Friday, March 6 also marks the end of the 3rd grading period. Report cards will be issued the following Friday, March 13.

Spring Ahead

Don't forget to spring forward and adjusting your clocks for Daylight Savings on Sunday, March 8!

Morning Drop-Off

As a reminder to parents dropping off their children at the side (north) door, please note that the door will not be unlocked until 7:25 AM. We do not have any supervision of students until that time. Thank you for understanding as we do not want students waiting outside in the cold weather.

Is your child going to be absent?

Please either call the office (309-243-7774) OR email Mrs. Barber at by 8:15 AM at the latest if your child is going to be absent. This will keep the office from having to contact you if we have not heard from you. Thank you for your help with this.

Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO)

We are so fortunate to have a PTO which is active and has the school's best interest in mind. We could not provide for our students many of the services and events without the help of the PTO. Be looking out for some information regarding events this year. Our next PTO Monthly meeting is on Tuesday, March 31 at 6:00 PM.

Events coming up:

  • PTO Dine Out Night at Panera - Thursday, March 5 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM.
  • PTO BINGO Night - FREE EVENT - Friday, March 13 from 6:30 - 7:30 PM
  • Grown-ups only Trivia Night - Saturday, April 4 beginning at 6:00 PM

Spring Pictures!

Spring Pictures are available for Wednesday, March 11 in the morning. Parents must order online or send the order form to school for a photo of their child to be taken.

2020-2021 School Registration

It is already time to begin thinking about next school year! Beginning on Thursday, March 12, parents are asked to register their child for the next school year. Check your email inbox on the 12th for the code necessary to complete registration. If you will be moving out of the district, please contact the office as soon as possible. We use the online registration to determine the number of staff we need. Thank you for your help with this.

Spring Break Dates

Let's hope we have some GREAT weather! We will be out for Spring Break from Monday, March 23 through Friday, March 27. School will resume on Monday, March 30.

Book Fair Coming in April!!

The Lunch with Loved Ones event will be held on Friday, April 24. On this day, students can invite loved ones like parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, neighbors, etc. to visit Banner at lunchtime to eat with them and shop our book fair. More information will be coming soon!

Birthday Treat Guidelines

We welcome birthday treats at the school but ask that parents follow a few simple guidelines. Treats must be both store-bought and individually wrapped. Bakery items are not permitted. Nutritional labels need to be on the packaging as well to ensure that students with food allergies are safe. In addition, we ask that balloons, flowers, etc. are not brought to school as those types of items are best given at home. Birthday treats not meeting the guidelines above cannot be distributed. A list of acceptable items were distributed to parents at Open House.

DHS Monthly Cookie Sales

The Life Skills Transition class will once again be coming to schools to sell fresh cookies. There are two cookies in a bag and it sells for $1.00. The cookies are chocolate chip and snicker-doodle. The primary focus of the Transition program is to serve as a bridge to adult living. We teach the students the skills they will need to live as independently as possible and be contributing members of their communities. The cookie business provides an opportunity to practice both vocational and social skills in a real life setting. The proceeds from our sales go towards buying groceries to use for weekly cooking lessons and allow us to go to different places to learn how to navigate and access the community. We appreciate all of the support that we have been given and we look forward to coming!

Cookies for Sale at Banner on Friday, March 13 at 1:30 PM.

Parent Volunteers

If you would like to volunteer with field trips, library, classroom parties at the Dunlap schools, you will need to complete the online application on the Dunlap District website. After completing, the District Office will contact you regarding fingerprinting. Please let the Banner office know that you have started the process. We suggest you start this as soon as possible as it does take some time to process everything. You must be approved before you can take part in an activity.
