Whitford Catholic Primary School
Newsletter 1 - 5 February 2020
Message from the Principal
A new decade is here and with it, the start of a new year! A warm welcome to what looks to be a fabulous 2020 school year ahead of us. As a community we are refreshed and full of hope as we mark the start of a new year of learning, teaching, faith and growing new friendships. It is a real pleasure watching how well all our students, and especially those new to our school are settling into their new classes. Well done!
I take this opportunity of also congratulating both staff and students on the positive way everyone just got on with things when faced with the power outage for much of Monday. Our combined efforts, creativity and positive attitude made for a fun first day of school, even without power. Thank you and a top job by all.
Staffing
Miss Anita Baric (Yr 2) was married over the Christmas break and has returned to school as Mrs Anita Nelson.
Mrs Samantha Hales, who was due to return to school has extended her leave due to illness. Mrs Jen O’Halloran will continue teaching in Student Support during this time.
Building Update
As you can see, there has been much happening in terms of building, over the school holidays. We can see light at the end of the tunnel and expect most of the works in regard to the front canopy and oval fencing to be completed within the next week.
The rope bridge and platforms around the trees are just about there and are looking just great. They should be a good challenge and will add another dimension to our play spaces and play equipment. Many thanks to Mrs Pina Pettinicchio from the P&F executive for spending so much of January up here liaising with Andrew from Nature Playscapes.
Congratulations!!!!
May we celebrate the recent achievements and success of both our Whitty’s Dads Group and Ian Plummer, who were acknowledged at the Australia Day Awards Ceremony in the City Of Joondalup.
Many blessings

Seasons for Growth
Here at Whitford Catholic Primary School we recognise that when changes occur in families through death, separation, divorce or significant change or loss, young people may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively. Therefore, we offer a very successful education program called Seasons for Growth to students in Years 1-6.
If you think this is something that might be helpful for your family, please click on the following link.

Kids of Mercy Enrolment 2020
This is the tenth year Whitford Catholic Primary School has been engaged in our community outreach through the Kids of Mercy.
Students in Years 1 - 6 may enrol to attend Mercyville Aged Care on a Friday at lunchtime.
The visits are brief, only 20 minutes, but they bring a lot of joy to the Sisters and ladies at Mercyville. Children should expect to be rostered on at least 3 times per year and rosters are published in School Stream with a note sent home.
On the Friday that students attend, they would need to meet promptly in front of the office when the second lunch bell sounds. We then proceed to Mercyville and meet with the ladies in their common room for a chat, show and tell or a music performance. We leave in time to start classes at 1.20pm. Bringing an item to show helps with conversation. Participant numbers are capped at 150.
Please use the form accessed through the link below (or in School Stream) for siblings attending. Siblings are rostered on together.
All participants from last year, wishing to continue, need to re-enrol. We don’t carry over from 2019. Please do not enrol your child without first discussing with them what is involved in this year-long commitment.

Music News
Music Class, Year 4 - 6
Students in Year 4, 5 and 6 are required to have either a scrapbook or plastic sleeve folder for their Music work. Students are also required to have a Recorder for their lessons. We have limited numbers of Recorders remaining in the Front Office for those families who wish to purchase an instrument from the school ($15). Once this stock runs out, we will no longer be providing these for purchase. Alternatively, Recorders can be purchased from a Music store or perhaps parents can possibly source an instrument from Officeworks, Big W, K Mart, Target, etc., however, we can not guarantee that Recorders will be available for purchase at those stores.
