COVID Mitigation Update ~ Masks and Symptom Check
Dear School District of Waukesha Families,
The School District of Waukesha staff and administration would like to thank you for your partnership and support during the first half of the school year. We are proud of the efforts of our students and the support of families as we continue our educational journey while dealing with the Covid19 pandemic. Our students have done a remarkable job adjusting to new routines and wearing masks in our schools. We look forward to a time when our mitigation measures are a thing of the past and we are able to resume normal school operations.
We are writing to provide you with a few updates as we enter the second half of the school year. Recently, the Wisconsin State Senate has voted to overturn Governor Tony Evers’ Mask Mandate and the Wisconsin State Assembly has discussed doing the same. Inevitably there will be additional health orders put forward. The School District of Waukesha will be maintaining the mask requirement at our schools during the school day and for all extra and co-curricular events and activities. This expectation applies to students, staff and visitors to our schools for all purposes of business including dropping students off in the morning, picking students up in the afternoon and dropping off forgotten student materials at our school buildings. We do have a process for accommodations for individuals who qualify for them and have utilized this process several times this year.
We would also like to remind you that it is extremely important for families to monitor their children for Covid19 symptoms. Many families have experienced their children needing to be quarantined this school year. In some instances, families have knowingly sent symptomatic children to school, which has resulted in other children being sent home for quarantine for extended periods of time. Additionally, several families with known positive family members have continued to send their children to school. Many of these children have subsequently tested positive for Covid19, which has further contributed to the number of students being placed on quarantine. The School District of Waukesha follows the guidance put forward by the Waukesha County Health Department and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to assess who is a close contact and who should be quarantined.
There is much to be hopeful for this year. Athletics, activities, performing arts, graduation and face to face instruction are all possible due to the partnership between our district and our families. With the prospect of widespread vaccination in our community, we feel hopeful that our current environment will improve so that the 2021-22 school year will look “normal”.
Sincerely,
School District of Waukesha Administration

Monthly Characteristic!
The picture shows a book all of our classrooms will be reading sometime this month! This book is about accepting yourself and others just the way they (and you) are!
You can support at home by talking about differences and similarities in the family - likes and dislikes - what things do you have in common with each other and what things are different?
**Below you can see the students of the month that were nominated by showing a great deal of self control!**
SRP (Standard Response Protocol)
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is based on an all hazards approach as opposed to individual scenarios. SRP utilizes clear common language while allowing for flexibility in protocol. The premise is simple - there are five specific actions that can be performed during an incident. When communicating these, the action is labeled with a “Term of Art” and is then followed by a “Directive.” Execution of the action is performed by active participants, including students, staff, teachers and first responders. The SRP is based on the following actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter.
