Thoughts from Dr. Pacatte
As we close out the 2021-22 school year, we want to celebrate and wish well our 2022 retirees! Thank you for your efforts on behalf of the students of Gurnee School District 56. Each one of you has touched the heart of a student, supported a colleague, and shared laughs and tears as you worked your way through your career in education. Please know that not everyone can do what you do. Education requires special talents and gifts. Thank you for sharing yours with our district.

IMPORTANT NEWS FOR THE LUNCH PROGRAM FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR
The lunch program is changing. The USDA is ending the free meal for all program after the 2021-22 school year. For next year, Gurnee 56 has elected to join the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. Children will have access to both breakfast and lunch if they would like. Children will get Free, Reduced, or Paid meals based on Income Eligibility Guidelines set forth by the USDA. Applications will be available after July 1 to families looking to qualify for free or reduced meals. Applications need to be filled out on an annual basis. Not all families will need to fill out an application to qualify. Households that receive SNAP, TANF, or income eligible Medicaid benefits are automatically eligible for free meals.
Students will be assigned their own meal accounts. Meals purchased through the meal program will be charged to these accounts. Parents will be responsible to make sure that this student meal account maintains a positive balance. Payments can be made in the school office or online through the RevTrak option in Skyward.
We are also delighted to announce the continuation of our partnership with Quest Food Management Services, Inc. as the dining services and hospitality management provider for Gurnee District 56. Some of the things to look forward to for next year will include:
· Cafeteria Improvements — Physical updates of our food service line in the cafeterias allowing for more variety and convenience.
· New Menus — Featuring scratch-made food that offers more choices, seasonal and regionally-available ingredients, local and global food concepts, as well as a variety of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.
· Responsibly Sourced Food — Sourcing of milk that is local and free of added growth hormones, trans-fat free oils, and non-GMO soy oil, sustainable seafood, USDA-certified proteins.
