About Harriet Quimby
Harriet Quimby was born on May 11 1875 and died on July 1st 1912. She was born in Arcadia, Michigan, United States. she was an early American pilot and a movie screen writer.
Early life and career
After Harriet Quimby's family moved to San Francisco, California in the early 1900's, she became a journalist. She moved to New York City in 1903 to work as a theatre critic for Leslie's Illistration week (a news magazine founded in 1852). Quimby became interested in being a pilot in 1910 when she met John Moisant, a well-known pilot and operator of a flight school.

The seven screen plays
In 1911 Quimby wrote seven screen plays that were made into short films by biograph studios. The seven screen plays were directed by D.W Griffith (175-1948). The stars in the screen play were Florence La Badie (1888-1817), Wilfred Lucas (1871-1940), and Blanche Sweet (1896-1986).
Why is or was she famous?
She was famous for being awarded a U.S pilots license by the Aero Club Of America, being the first woman to have a pilots licence in America. She was also famous for being the first woman to fly across the English Channel
