WST Weekly Update
September 27 - October 1, 2021
WST Updates
This week students on campus completed pre-tests using precision exams in the 21st century skills as well as content specific areas. The pre-tests help our instructors better develop meaningful learning that supports students in areas that are most needed. Students will complete a mid-term assessment and a final assessment as well as they engage in their learning.
Employers and colleges alike share often that they are looking for students that are critical thinkers, understand soft skills, and can communicate well. Our goal is to help every student develop their 21st century skills while on campus.
Throughout the year, students have many opportunities with WST to engage with local employers, learn the expectations, and hear first hand what different occupations actually look like in the real world. Students have opportunities for industry and college tours, guest speakers, and various events on the WST campus to engage with different industries and college partners.
There are several events coming up at WST where we will have many partners on campus to support your student's learning about the future.
February 22 - 25, 2022: West Sound Tech Works: Students will have a professional conference on campus where they will meet with various industry partners to learn how to prepare for careers, write resumes and cover letters that employers want, understand the online application processes, prepare for the FAFSA, and more. This event occurs during the school day and students will select a series of workshops to attend during each of the four days.
March 1, 2022: Explore Your Future Event: This is an annual event at WST. last year it was virtual due to the pandemic, but we are hopeful that we will be back in the building live this year to engage with our families and prospective families. All programs are open and have current students present to share their experiences and engage with the community and families on aspects that they are learning in class. In addition, industry and business partners as well as community organizations host tables at the event where you can learn more about their industries and opportunities available. Further, we have military, apprenticeship programs, 2- and 4-year colleges and universities available to share about their post-secondary options for students. If your business or industry is interested in hosting a booth at the Explore Your Future Event, please complete the interest form.
March 31 - April 1, 2022: West Sound Tech Mock Interviews: Each year all students on the WST campus prepare for and engage in a series of mock interviews with prospective employers. This year we are ramping up the event by having each student complete an employment portfolio in their content area with their resume, cover letter, sample application, and a few best works from the year (may be pictures, assessments' assignments, etc.), and copies of any certifications earned in the course to date.
We are looking for community partners that are willing to come in for any of the above events (or anytime throughout the year), to support our students growth. If you work in any of the industries represented and would like to give back, please contact Shani Watkins to learn more.
COVID Updates
Your school nurse and/or the health department will provide you with a return date for your student based on information provided. If a student plans to return BEFORE the first date provided by the nurse and/or health department, the student must have the copy of their vaccination records or a copy of the negative test.
Thank you for your patience as things continue to shift and change as we learn more about the Covid expectations and requirements for schools.

West Sound Tech and Business/Industry Partnerships
Each year we host several advisory committee meetings to support specific industry areas as well as general advisory oversight of the programs at West Sound Tech.
We are looking for parents and students that are interested in having their voice heard as part of our partnerships. Each content specific advisory needs student and parent representatives to provide additional context to the learning and curriculum.
WST is looking for business and industry partners that are interested in participating in the content specific advisories in the areas of 3D animation and game design (including coding, VR, and 3D designers), Automotive Technology, Collision Repair Technology, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Esthetics, Fire Science, HVAC, Professional Medical Careers, and Welding.
If you are in a business or industry not represented by the above, but would still like to contribute to the learning and opportunities for all West Sound Tech students, we are also looking for general advisory members.
Our first meeting of the year is scheduled for Monday, October 18, from 5:30 - 7:00 pm.
