Board of Trustees News

New Board Chairperson

We are delighted to announce that Cassie Warburton has been elected as the new Board Chairperson for 2022. Cassie has been a member of the board since 2019 and a Stanley Avenue School parent since 2010. Cassie is married to Tim and has two sons, Liam and Michael. Liam is Year 12 at Te Aroha College and Michael is Year 8 at Stanley Ave. Cassie works locally as a Planner for GeoMetrix. We know Cassie will do a great job and that the school community will support her.

Outgoing Board Chairperson

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark Baillie, the outgoing Board Chairperson for his outstanding contribution to Stanley Avenue School. Mark worked tirelessly in his role and always had the Stanley Avenue learner as his first priority. During Mark’s time as Board Chairperson a number of key property initiatives were carried out and a clear strategic direction was evident. We wish Mark and his family well in their future endeavours.

Whānau Survey

Today we will be sending out a Google Form Survey about our School Progressions. This is part of our internal evaluation and really helps us gather important information to keep improving what we do for our students and their whānau.

It is a 3 question survey and we would really appreciate it if you could take the time to answer this survey. It is important whether you know anything or not just to give us honest feedback. We really appreciate the time this will take you.

Service Leaders 2022

This year we have identified two leaders within the school that we are calling Service Leaders. This role is about supporting the many groups of children that help our school work well each day such as :- Road Patrol, PE Shed, Wet Weather Duty, and Staffroom. These jobs are all carried out amongst their busy learning days and Alexis Broekhals and McKenzie Horner have been selected to support these groups. They show the ability to be on task and have an awesome memory. They will also support the Teachers with any other tasks they can as they are a very willing and helpful duo.

2022 Swimming Sports for 8 - 12 year old Students

We will be holding our Swimming Sports on Wednesday 2nd March, although this will be split between our School Pool and Te Aroha College College Pool as we did last year. Those swimmers that have chosen to swim Championship races will walk to the College and will have Swimming Sports there during the morning. The other children will be swimming here at school in the school pool for their Swimming Sports.

The only people who can accompany us to the College Pool are staff and the officials that are helping with the swimming. The only people that are allowed onsite at Stanley Avenue for the Swimming Sports will be the staff.

If you are a double vaccinated adult and are willing to help with the Swimming Sports, please contact the office or myself asap.

Please ensure that your child brings their togs, towels and other swimming gear on Wednesday to take part in their Swimming Sports whether it is at School or at the College.

  • All children will need to be at school at the normal time.

  • Championship Swimmers leave for the College at approximately 9.15am.

  • Swimmers will return as soon as the race programme is finished before lunchtime.

Thank you for your support

Miss Forrest and Room 7 putting their swimming skills to the test!!

On Thursday Miss Forrest was in Room 7 and taught them all about Water Safety.

After completing tasks in class it was time to take the lesson to the pool!

Room 7 had a fantastic time and can not wait to have Miss Forrest back later on in the term.

Basketball Term 1

The children are very excited and looking forward to Basketball starting for Term 1. We want to send out a huge thank you to you all for having your forms, money and offers of help back to us to make this so easy. We have 11 or maybe 12 teams entering and they have started training!

Year 5 & 6 Basketball starts at the Event Centre at 5pm on Wednesday 9th March.

Year & & 8 Basketball starts at the Event Centre at 5pm on Monday 7th March

This is unfortunately a non spectator event due to covid restrictions. We wish the teams and the managers all the best. Basketball shirts will be issued next wee

Stanley Ave Netball 2022

Is your child thinking about playing Netball in 2022? Would you be interested in helping out in some way, whether that be as a Coach, Manager, or School Coordinator? If you think this is something you would be keen to do, please contact Kim Hayes at the school office. We hope that Netball will be provided for Year 1/2, Year 3/4, Year 5/6 and Year 7/8. Depending on numbers this year (and the Covid restrictions at the start of the season) we will require at least a Coach and Manager for the Year 5-8 teams and some helpers with our Future Ferns (Year1-4). Netball is such a fun team sport, that provides great ball skills, aids hand-eye coordination, builds friendships, and operates from our Te Aroha courts every weekend in Term 2. No travelling necessary!! Please consider helping your child and their friends have a great winter sport season. More information regarding start dates, teams and uniforms will be available in the next couple of weeks. Watch this space!!

Potae - Hats

As part of our sunsmart policy , it is compulsory for students to wear a Stanley Avenue Bucket hat. These can either be the royal blue toggle bucket hat or the new navy blue bucket hat with our logo on it (New addition to our uniform this year). If your child does not have a hat they can be purchased from the office for $12

Stanley Avenue School App

Our School App provides our community with many important updates. I strongly encourage you if you haven’t already to download the App either through Google Play or the App Store.
