Did You Know...

On May 28th, Gov. Kay Ivey signed into law the Alabama Released Time Credit Act that clarifies the constitutional blueprint for school systems across Alabama to offer Released Time Bible classes! Alabama is one of only a handful of states that has this law.

Many of us remember when we were in school and students got in trouble for running in the halls - but not now. Today it is drugs, suicide, murder, sexual assault and other serious felonies. Right now, children are reaching out for help. Will they find it?

School Ministries of Birmingham (SMB) is a unique program that offers “Released Time” classes where students in all grades may leave school to attend off-campus Bible classes during the regular school day. In these classes children, who may never regularly attend church, learn that Jesus Christ is the answer. It is estimated that 300,000+ students across 32 states are currently studying the Bible this way. These are discipleship classes that teach the Bible as life-changing Gospel. Released Time is the only constitutionally approved way to teach the Bible as God’s Word in public schools.

In 2016, School Ministries of Birmingham took the first step by starting a small class at Spain Park High School. One student has found a personal relationship with Christ and several others have dedicated their lives to mission work.

The vision of SMB is to keep taking steps to develop into a ministry like the one in Grenville, SC, where Bible classes are held in all 17 Greenville school systems, and each year over 2,000 children find a personal relationship with Jesus Christ! Just think - Birmingham has over 30 school systems! Yet, over the past three years, SMB found it difficult to expand into other schools. Just now, God allowed another step to be taken that will change this and open more doors!

On May 28, Gov. Kay Ivey signed into law the Alabama Released Time Credit Act that clarifies the constitutional blueprint for school systems across Alabama to offer Released Time Bible classes! Alabama is one of only a handful of states that has this law. SMB has already begun conversations to expand into other schools, If you want to learn more about ways you can help public school children discover life and life changes the Gospel offers, please contact Stan Davis, stan@smbham.org or 205-617-9447. You can also help by facilitating introductions to school board members and school superintendents you know. SMB has witnessed the difference prayer makes. You may want to join the SMB prayer warriors. You can learn more about School Ministries of Birmingham at www.smbham.org.
