NAESP: Report to Parents - Talking About Grades
(Repeated from 2/15)
Butler is preparing for 2nd Trimester Conferences held mid-March - formally March 17 & 18. It will be a time to recognize and celebrate the continued growth of the children and an opportunity to look at short-term goals before the end of the year. In anticipation for that time with the classroom teacher, NAESP's Report to Parents provides some guidance and ideas in speaking with your child about their time in school. Even if it is before report cards are published, or the conference is held, work samples and teacher communications can help to start this conversation with your child.
"A discussion with your child about grades can be an effective conversation starter that leads to a broader discussion about school in general. Allowing your child the opportunity to share thoughts and feelings - not just about academics - but also about social issues and their teachers is just as important as a conversation about grades. Families can use these tips to talk to kids about grades in a positive and effective way..."

- First vehicle, please pull all the way around to the gym atrium.
- When it is time, students should exit along the sidewalk side (right side of vehicles).
- Parents are to remain in vehicles as students exit. If a child needs support exiting/carrying items, please park in our visitor spots and walk your child into the main office. Please say goodbye in the vehicle before your child exits.

3rd Grade Hero Research - Presentation Day, 2/25/2022!
Butler Elementary 3rd grade classrooms have been invested in Hero Research, learning about a historic individual who has made an impact in positive ways. Across the last few weeks, students chose a person, researched their life, and designed a presentation for the culminating project. Coming dressed as their "hero", students presented on Friday, February 25th to their classmates and staff. Students did a wonderful job sharing why they thought their person was a hero!
National Black History Month
In celebration of National Black History Month, students across Butler learned about influential Americans during February. This year's national theme was honoring Black Americans who have contributed or influenced important work in the medical field. Activities and events were held at Butler providing students with the opportunity to read and research about varied individuals. Recently, 2nd Grade Library classes learned about Jerry Pinkney - Philadelphia native and 6-time winner of the Caldecott Award, highlighting his contributions in illustrating children's literature. Mrs. Halpin's 5th grade class used Discovery Education online media forum to research. They were able to choose any influential American, took notes, and then drew a picture depicting their individual using a "Z" chart to show what they learned.
Happy Twos-Day -2/22/2022
Butler Elementary School had a little fun celebrating Twos-Day, 2/22/22 this week - participating in fun activities throughout our primary grades. Children also learned about palindromes and how each day's date this week represents a numerical palindrome (written the same way forwards and backwards). Children worked on "doubles" activities and enjoyed creating/ studying "mirror images" on this Twos-Day!
Butler Musical Revue - Behind the Scenes Preparations
The Butler Stage Crew and Set Designers began preparing the art for our upcoming show From Story to Stage. Student artists created boards that will be used during the show - as different scenes (and songs) will be presented throughout the performance. With the student designers, Mr. Guenst worked before school on Seussical Scenery - seen in these photos. The show is coming along and students are dedicating hours a week in preparations!
