On Biodegradable Plastics
Biodegradable plastics refer to a class of plastic with the effect of naturally occurring microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi caused by the degradation. Ideal biodegradable plastic is an excellent use performance, the waste can be completely decomposed, and eventually inorganic polymer material becomes an integral part of the carbon cycle. Biodegradable plastics have good biodegradability, mainly used as food packaging and this is its biggest stage applications as Rikang plastic bag.
The main target market of biodegradable plastics is plastic packaging film, agricultural film, biodegradable garbage bags, disposable plastic bags and disposable plastic tableware. Compared with traditional plastic packaging materials, new biodegradable materials cost higher. But as environmental awareness is enhancing, people are willing to protect the environment and use higher prices for new biodegradable materials. Environmental awareness has brought great opportunities for development to new biodegradable materials industry.
Recently, Spain Plastics Technology Research Institute, Aimplas joins hands to develop a successful business all plastics biodegradable plastic bottles, which will be used in the medical field. It is reported that the new biodegradable packaging by a special process is automatically broken down into water, carbon dioxide, inorganic salts and biomass. Besides drugs, the packaging container can accommodate creams, gels, shampoos, mouthwash and other substances. In a statement released Aimplas pointed out by the level of the production process and product characteristics limit, currently only biodegradable packaging drugs with HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) for the material.
Aimplas researchers says, from now on, biodegradable materials can also be used in the pharmaceutical field, in ensuring that well preserved medicinal properties, while also able to increase the environmental value of the bottle.
It is expected that the development of bio-based PET is the most prominent. By 2020, there will be 5 million tons of bio-based PET with sugar cane ethanol production. Since Asia and South America has rich natural resources, capital development of bio -based materials due to potential walked two continents. America¡¯s bio-based materials production capacity in 2020 will account for 18% of global, beyond Europe and North America. Compared with petroleum resin, biodegradable plastics still relatively short history, but in the past couple of years, the development of new resins, improved physical properties and improved the supply system have been steadily expanding the scope of application. Applications in the food, beverage and cosmetics containers are broader. If further mass production is carried out, it helps to cut costs biodegradable plastics. For the purposes of bio-plastics, non-edible resources and unused resources as a raw material is also an important issue.
