Math Update

Week of November 16th

This Week in Math...

Prime and composite numbers are the topic this week and next! Students will use the Sieve of Eratosthenes to discover all of the prime numbers between 1-100. They'll also learn to use divisibility rules to determine if a number is prime or composite.

I have the privilege of attending a Train-the-Trainer Institute in Alexandria this week to become a Guided Math trainer for our county. I'll be out of the classroom Tuesday - Friday, which is quite stressful for a teacher! I want to ensure that my students are highly engaged and moving forward, so I have prepared video lessons for my classes this week! They'll watch several videos that I created just for them, while using their interactive math notebooks. They'll also have other resources available to them on Blendspace to reinforce these lessons. When I return next Monday, we'll continue practicing prime and composite numbers with centers and small group work.

On Thursday and Friday, students will take their Math Benchmark Test. This test is used to determine if your child has retained and mastered the math standards taught so far this school year. It will include rounding decimal numbers, triangles and angles, order of operations, and whole number and decimal computation. Please make every effort to have your child in attendance on these days, as scheduling a retake often means that they are missing classroom instruction.
