Greetings from the Principal
Dear Riverview families,
Welcome back from what I hope was a relaxing and enjoyable Spring Break! Our family stayed in the area and enjoyed spending time outdoors when we weren't watching basketball! Returning to school rejuvenated is important, because we are entering the home stretch--fourth quarter. While there are many exciting activities this quarter to celebrate the school year, it is also a time to focus on extending student learning and applying concepts to the real world.
There are many ways to support and monitor your children's academic success. Find out how your child is doing through reviewing completed work that comes home in Monday folders, progress notes, and of course, grade cards. Grade cards will be posted this Friday afternoon (3/25) to Skyward.
An effective way to help students take charge of their own learning is to review the grade card together with your child and help collaborate to develop a plan for fourth quarter for continued success and growth. Be sure to ask students how or why they received their grades, and emphasize student responsibility as having a positive impact on achievement, such as making the choice to study outside of the school day, ask for help when needed, and using class time wisely.
If you ever have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact you child's teacher anytime throughout the remainder of the school year.
Make it a great week!
Beth Mildren

What is Reading Fluency?
At every grade level, teachers are working with students to improve their reading fluency. Fluency is the sign of a proficient reader. When a student reads a text quickly with few mistakes, appropriate expression, and proper phrasing, fluency has been achieved. Once a student masters fluency, he or she can more readily focus on the comprehension of a text.
Parents can help to foster reading fluency at home by modeling fluent reading, constantly exposing their child to print, and encouraging lots of opportunities for students to read. Reading labels while shopping, road signs, and recipes or instruction booklets are a few practical ways to squeeze more fluency opportunities into your child’s day.
