KC Kids Unite 2022
Breaking Barriers. Building Community.
Program Information
KC Kids Unite is a partnership between The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Johnson County Library and the GKCWP. The 2022 program will allow for 10 classrooms to participate in shared reading, writing and art-making experiences. Working to dismantle racism and build a stronger community, KC Kids Unite will provide a three-week, social justice curriculum and professional development to help teachers integrate and share resources.
Students will engage in reading, writing and art-making that centers on the sharing of students' personal stories. Developmentally and age-appropriate mentor texts are used to foster learning related to ourselves, one another and community. Through a variety of interactive experiences, students engage in close reading, research, argument, blended writing, civic engagement and identity development.
