Inclement Weather

We have had quite a robust winter! In the case of a delayed start or any other alternate schedule due to weather, the status will always be posted on both the Nebo website (nebo.edu) and our school website (scms.nebo.edu). We will also use every method we can to notify you in case of an alternate schedule. National HEART Month

Did you know…the heart beats around 100,000 times in a day and pumps 1.5 gallons of blood per minute?

February is national heart month and taking care of your heart may look different than you might think. Here are a few self-care tips to maintain a healthy heart.

- A daily dose of physical activity every day (a 30-minute brisk walk).

- Cook meals at home that are low in sodium and unhealthy fats.

- Take your medications as prescribed and keep your medical appointments.

- Sleep 7-8 hours per night.

- Manage stress in healthy ways. Read a book, meditate, take a bath, or take a few minutes to find some quiet time.

When talking about different types of heart disease it can be confusing. Keep in mind that “Cardiovascular Disease” is a term that is used for all types of disease that include the heart or blood vessels. 1 in 3 deaths are from some type of cardiovascular disease.

The following are ways to protect your heart.

- Ask your doctor about your blood pressure, cholesterol, and A1C.

- Reduce the sodium and increase fruits, veggies and whole grains.

- Be physically active.

- Don’t smoke.

- Manage stress.

- Keep your diabetes under control.

- Maintain a healthy weight.

Prevention and recognizing the signs and symptoms of heart disease can make a difference in your quality of life. Learn and find more information at www.heart.org
