Weekly Update April 22, 2022
The Lion's Share
By Superintendent Barrett
I was on a panel once when cellphones were relatively new, and we were asked what kept us up at night as school administrators.
Not one of us mentioned social media, because it was so new, and it just didn’t have the power and resonance it has today. This was when not every phone was a smartphone, and it was still cool to have a flip phone. It really was not that long ago but technology develops so quickly that it seems like the dark ages. The bottom line, we didn’t have a clue about how social media would impact our schools.
School Calendar Survey
Survey Due Monday, April 25, 2022
As we prepare to build our future school calendars, we would like to hear from our GJPS community regarding the priorities that should be considered in the process. Please take a moment to complete this brief survey to help us understand what is important to you.
The survey will remain open until midnight on Monday, April 25, 2022.
Equity & Access Community Feedback
On Monday, April 18, 2022, we hosted an Equity Community Conversation where more than 100 school community stakeholders came together to discuss the following five focus areas:
Sense of Belonging
Diverse Staffing
Inclusive Curriculum and Resources
Equitable Representation, Access and Outcomes
Community Engagement and Partnerships
We are so grateful for the respectful and productive dialogue and idea sharing at that event, and we would like to provide the greater community an opportunity to give ideas related to our Equity & Access Plan.
Please take time to complete our GJPS Equity & Access Feedback Survey. General descriptions for the five focus areas can be found in the survey.
Thank you for your partnership in this very important work.
The survey will remain open until Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at noon.

GLHS Global Scholars Share Projects
The Global Scholars Diploma is a 3-year program from the Columbus Council on World Affairs that develops globally competent high school students by building the awareness and skills needed to take action on a global issue and to become responsible citizens of the world.
Students engage in activities and interact with dynamic speakers as they develop skills in global cultures, global careers and global issues.
The program culminates with a Take Action project in the students’ third and final year that is meant to demonstrate the abilities that they have cultivated over the course of the first two years. Students choose a globally-oriented issue about which they are passionate, and they pursue a leadership role in solving it at a local level.
