*Request to Retest - All students have the opportunity to request to retake a test. In an effort to improve their understanding of the Reconstruction test material, some students chose to retake this test on Monday. This should explain why your child may have two Reconstruction tests in their VIP Folder.
*Today, parent conference information will be emailed to you.
Expectations for Reading HW & Book Report Essays
Have you seen your child reading lately? Your child's nightly homework is to read the book of their choice on their reading level. He or she is also expected to complete a minimum of 3 book reports on books they have read every nine weeks. These reports will be a part of their final grade for each nine weeks.
On Monday, students carefully examined 3 book report formats: fictional, informational, and biographical. They understand that they need to choose the book report format that best fits their book's genre. The first book report essay is due on Friday, October 3rd. To see samples of the book report essays, check your child's VIP folder or click on the following link:
Meet Jeremiah by Ryan
I really enjoyed my opportunity to interview Jeremiah. I was really pleased to get to know him better. Most of what he said was really interesting. Examples of that is, his greatest fear is zombies because he doesn’t want scientists to bring someone back to life and it go entirely wrong. One of his most dreamed places in the world is the Bahamas because he just wants to relax! His favorite rapper is MC Hammer because he really likes rap which is a pretty good type of music. This one was very interesting - if he had only one wish he would be famous for one day to know what it feels like, Jeremiah said the straight up truth on this one - he wants to have a good job and live a good life. I really hope I get to interview him again and ask him even more questions.

School Improvement Council
Please go on Facebook and request to join our SIC group. This is a closed group, so you will have to search for "Dutch Fork Elementary School Improvement Council" and request to join. This group will be a place where we elicit feedback from staff, parents and other stakeholders.
Hunger Action Month
At DFES…The Academy of Environmental Sciences, we are committed to social action in support of our community. Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students are learning about communities and their roles as community members. Students in upper grades are using the inquiry process to discover how they can personally bring about change in the community as social scientists. Please join us for a food drive in support of District Five’s Snack Pack Food program. Items donated will go directly to students in our district who participate in this program. We will be accepting donations listed below until October 3, 2014. You may send the items with your child at any time, and their homeroom teacher will explain where the items will be collected. Thank you for your contribution!
