TUESDAY, MARCH 2 @ 1:30 is the Counselor's Webinar on Course Programming and Selection for your 2021-2022 school year! ALL CURRENT 9th-11th GRADERS MUST ATTEND this Webinar. Next school year you will sign up for 8 Classes in a 4x 4 schedule. One class will gain you 10 credits in 1 semester.



FOR YOU TO DO BEFORE TUESDAY, MARCH 2:

  1. Watch this Video on Programming (Part 1 and Part 2)
  2. All students grades 9-11 should go to their Counselor's Google Classroom to see relevant information.
  3. Review the JHS Course Catalog for course descriptions and Sample Course Programming (pg 1-6).
  4. View your own Course History (summary and graduation status). Note: To review your Course History online, log in to StudentVue and click on the Course History Tab. When open, click on the Detail Button to view your grade history. Course History is not viewable when using the phone app but by logging onto a Chromebook or computer.

Apply to Girls Who Code’s free 2-week Virtual Summer Immersion Program for an unforgettable experience! Current 9th -11th grade girls and non-binary students are eligible to apply.


The early application deadline is approaching quickly on February 17th! We strongly encourage students from underrepresented groups in tech to apply early, including Black, Latinx, and students from low-income backgrounds.

  • Identify as female, non-binary, or gender non-conforming
  • Be a rising sophomore, junior or senior (current 9th-11th grader)

  • Students can participate whether they are complete beginners or already have some computer science experience

Pierre Sermanet, a lead researcher at Google Brain's robotics division, will be sharing his ideas about the future of robotics on March 6 at 1:00 pm EST/10:00 am PST.

The Knowledge Society Talks series has featured leaders from Google, Tesla, SpaceX and Apple, with 5,000+ students attending from 40+ countries. There is no cost to attend and this talk will not be recorded.

College Board is hosting virtual events for high school students to connect directly with college admissions representatives and take action on the most important steps for college.

You can register for any event and more than one.
You can attend all or parts of the event.

Who: This event is meant for high school sophomores and juniors, but younger and older students are welcome. We also encourage parents/guardians to join along with their students.

Scholarships for JHS, WHS, and Thornton HS Seniors: The Jefferson Council PTA (JCPTA) Betty Schultz Scholarship Fund and Nattie Fong Scholarship Fund offer graduating high school seniors scholarships to acknowledge the achievements of their volunteer service in their school and community. Applications must be received on or before the March 31st deadline. Please share this with your students. If you have any questions, please email jeffersoncouncilpta@gmail.com.

Essay and Visual Arts Scholarships to Raise Awareness of the Armenian Genocide

The California Armenian Legislative Caucus is holding two scholarship contests for the 2021 commemoration of the Armenian Genocide. California high school students in ninth through twelfth grade are invited to participate in an essay contest and/or a visual arts contest to increase greater awareness of the Armenian Genocide. The submission deadline for both contests is Friday, April 9, 2021.

All winners will be awarded scholarships and a trip to Sacramento to be acknowledged at the California Armenian Legislative Caucus’ annual Armenian Advocacy Day during a press conference on April 26, 2021. (Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this may not be an in-person event. Final details will be determined closer to the event date.) Winners will be contacted directly and announced to mainstream and Armenian media by the

California Armenian Legislative Caucus on April 16, 2021. Original artwork will be requested from visual arts applicants if selected as a finalist for possible display in the California State Capitol. Scholarship awards are $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place, and $500 for third place in each contest.

San Mateo County Public Wifi Project:


A list of 25 sites going live (13 SMC Public Library and 12 Public Library WiFi) across the county that will provide free public WiFi to over 1,400 K-12 students.


The flyer highlights the latest SMC Public WiFi locations that can be visited to get online.

Connecting to SMC Public WiFi is as simple as 1-2-3.


1. From your laptop, tablet, or phone, please go to your WiFi settings and select the network called SMC Public WiFi. No password is needed.

2. A screen will come up asking you to accept the terms and conditions of the county’s Acceptable Use Policy. Select Accept. You must accept these terms and conditions in order to connect to the Internet.

3. Click the Done button on the upper right-hand corner of the screen. You are now connected to the Internet.

Connecting to a library’s public network.

· Connecting to a library’s public WiFi will follow a similar process by accessing the network from the WiFi settings on your device. The network will be named after the library you are visiting.

o Similar terms and conditions may appear and will need to be accepted before connecting to the Internet.

Second Harvest and Pacific Islands Together are partnering with Jefferson High School to offer a drive-thru food bank twice monthly. All families are welcome:

2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 11-1 Enter from Mission Street In your car. Don’t be surprised to find the line of cars extending up Mission Street to the top of the hill. Food is normally available for families arriving by 11 AM.


Volunteers will come to greet you and register your family. Up to three families can receive food in each car.

As we are approaching the end of the school year, there are some REALLY IMPORTANT DEADLINES that I want to remind you of in terms of yearbook.


Senior Package Option: February 28th

A senior sweatshirt and yearbook for $85!!! After 2/28, the option to buy a yearbook and a sweatshirt for that price will increase. Order before prices increase!!!! Here is the link where you order a senior package.


Senior Quote Deadline: February 28th

Submit your senior quotes by 2/28. This needs to be an appropriate quote for the yearbook and should be 50 characters or less. Inappropriate quotes will not be printed.

Senior Portrait Selection Deadline: February 28th

For those of you who have already had your senior portrait photo taken through Prestige Photography, the last day to send me the proof number of your yearbook photo is 2/28.

You do not have to do this, but if you would like to select the photo, it must be a tuxedo/off the shoulder picture with a blue/gray background. If you do not have tuxedo/off the shoulder, cap and gown or nicely dressed with a blue/gray background is also acceptable.


Senior Portrait (Submitting a Photo): March 31st

If you have not taken your senior portrait yet, you can still book appointments with photography students and send in a senior portrait by 3/31 at the LATEST!! Here is a link to a Prestige photo studio in San Carlos (Of course, you could choose a different professional company if you would like)

Email me a copy of a senior portrait in a JPEG file format.

8. Enter in graduation YEAR, ADDRESS FORMAL FULL NAME (cap/ gown gets sent to the school but we still need address for checkout)



Senior Baby Ads (Ads in the Yearbook): April 19th

Senior Baby Ads are a great way to recognize your child for all their hard work that they have done to get to the end of their senior year! You can choose from a 1/2 page or 1/4 page ad to write a personal note and add in pictures of your child! If you would like to purchase a senior baby ad to be in the yearbook, this must be done by 4/19. You can purchase an ad at this website. The price for a 1/4 page ad is $50 and the price for 1/2 page add is $100.
