Notes from Nurse Jessica...
Upcoming Dates:
- 3/2—5th Grade Growth and Development Preview Materials Day, 12:30pm or 5:30pm, Central Office
- 4/17—4th Grade Growth and Development Presentation
- 5/1—5th Grade Growth and Development Presentation
- 2/20 - Dental Health Presentation for K-2nd with Dr. Crise
- February is National Dental Health Month. Healthy teeth and gums are important for many reasons. Teeth bite, tear and chew food when you eat. Teeth also help you speak clearly. Many of the letters of the alphabet cannot be sounded without the help of teeth. Clean healthy teeth help you keep the rest of your body healthy, too. A sparkling smile always helps you look and feel your best! Your child may report that they have had a local dentist visit their classroom this month. For more tips on dental hygiene seehttps://kidshealth.org/en/kids/teeth-care.html
- Week of 2/18—Spinal Screenings
- McClure’s Spinal Screenings will take place the week of February 18th—and most will be done on Wednesday, 2/19 at 8am. Your child will receive a letter if they need to be screened this year. If you have questions, please contact Nurse Jessica.
- Spinal Screening Update
o The State of Texas changed the spinal screening guidelines last year to consider the most recent, nationally-accepted, peer-reviewed recommendations for the appropriate age to conduct mandatory spinal screening.
o In compliance with Health and Safety Code, Chapter 37, all children shall undergo screening for abnormal spinal curvature in accordance with the following schedule:
· Girls will be screened two times, once at age 10 and again at age 12. (regardless of grade level)
· Boys will be screened one time at age 13 or 14. (regardless of grade level)
o In McKinney ISD, we will consider a student to be 10, 12 or 13 if the student is already this age or turns this age between May 1, 2018 and April 30, 2019.
o The procedure for screening is simple. Your child will be examined while he/she stands and then leans forward, observed from the front, back, and side. For this examination, boys and girls will be screened separately. Boys will wear their pants or gym shorts and only remove their shirts. Girls will need to wear a halter-top, sports bra or a two-piece swimsuit with pants, shorts, or skirt.
4th and 5th Grade Growth and Development Presentation
MISD has developed a scope and sequence of growth and development which begins in 4th grade. More information will be sent out in grade level newsletters closer to the presentation which will be at the end of the school year. Please see the following information and note them on your calendar as needed. Any questions should be directed to Nurse Jessica. Thanks!

Get Your Awareness Fair Shirts Today!
The Awareness Day Fair is a special hands on event designed to help students get a better understanding of different diagnoses by going through 4 specific stations. This year our stations are: ADHD, Anxiety, Diabetes and Dyslexia. Our goal is to share information in order to help students better understand the unique differences of people in their environment so that instead of bullying, straying away from or feeling sorry for, we will embrace, love and understand!
Awareness Day Fair will be held on Thursday April 23rd.

All you have to do is shop as you normally do, snap pictures of your receipts with the app, and voila Just shop, snap, earn!
Get started today:
1. Download the free Shoparoo app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
