Dear Armstrong Families:
In order to better serve and support our students who are working remotely, Armstrong will adopt a new schedule for synchronous learning beginning in the spring semester.
The new schedule is documented below. You will note an increase in the amount of weekly synchronous learning time. We hope that the increased level of direct participation through synchronous learning in the online classroom setting will encourage a higher level of participation from School@Home students. In addition, we hope that it will facilitate a stronger connection between students at home and their teachers. Teachers would like to see more School@Home students accessing their classrooms on asynchronous days and in virtual tutorial sessions. As a reminder, students currently have the opportunity to attend classes virtually during all five days of the school week. This availability will continue in the spring.
Please note that the changes to the synchronous schedule will not affect the current attendance policies in place for Remote learners. Students will still have until 11:59 pm to complete assignments for the day if they are not in attendance during their scheduled class. Attendance is taken daily for all F2F and School@Home learners, and all students, regardless of their learning environment selection, are still held to truancy laws and school attendance requirements.
In addition to the change in the synchronous learning schedule, some students may be invited back to campus for Face-to-Face (F2F) learning. Please be advised that the AMS Remote Learning Committee will review the fall performance and attendance of all School@Home students. Based on the child’s attendance and/or academic performance in the remote instruction setting, the Remote Learning Committee may recommend cancellation of remote instruction if a student is not performing (passing or participating) and/or attending classes (at least 90% of the time). A member of the Remote Learning Committee will contact each family recommended for cancellation of remote instruction prior to the end of the fall semester, which is December 18, 2020. Beginning on January 5, 2021, if identified, your child may be required to return to in-person learning.
As a final reminder, all students who have selected Face-to-Face learning on campus will be required to attend school Monday through Friday beginning on January 5th for the spring semester. The F2F learning schedule will remain the same.
Please also note that F2F learners cannot switch to remote learning without school approval.
Our goal at Armstrong is to assist each scholar towards success and to develop a support system to assist them in achieving their fullest potential. Thank you for your support of our mission. Please contact us with any questions that you may have.
Sincerely,
Melissa Blank
