Benchmarks This Week
Dearest Parents and/or Important People,
Our Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth graders will be taking STAAR benchmarks next week. These assessments will guide our instruction in the Spring semester. Students who travel for 7th grade athletics should report to Prestwick on the mornings listed below. Your learner(s) will take the tests as follows:
Tuesday, March 3rd - 3rd & 4th Math, 6th Math (all students except those in Compacted Math)
7th Math (7th Math on level - these students should report directly to Prestwick)
Wednesday, March 4th
3rd & 4th Reading, 6th & 7th Reading - all 7th athletes need to report directly to Prestwick
Thursday, March 5th
5th & 8th Science
(Each test will take part on the designated day and students will have a four hour time limit work each day. )
Students have worked hard this year and have many skills to demonstrate on these two days. We are confident your students are well prepared and ready to give it 100%. A few tips to maximize your son and/or daughter(s) success are...
1. Students should arrive on time. Please do your best to make sure there are not any conflicts with out of school appointments on these days for your student.
2. Get a good night’s rest in order to feel alert and ready to focus.
3. Eat a healthy breakfast either at home or at school.
4. Have a positive send off for your student in the am. Students should feel supported by you as well as confident that they are prepared. We know some nerves are typical and healthy. Again we will assure students that all the hard work until this point of the year is their preparation.
We want to remind parents and students that on testing day all cell phones and/or electronics including smart watches must be turned in to the teacher during the test for test security reasons. Cell phones will be taken care of and returned as soon as testing has concluded. We understand students have phones for various reasons and just want to encourage them to
follow procedure and turn them in.
Thanks in advance for reminding your student to do so. If you have any questions please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or our office at 972-947-9450.
Prestwick Proud,
Christine Gibson

Immunization Requirement for 7th grade students in the 2020 -2021 school year
To current 6th Grade Parents regarding 7th Grade
If your student has received any immunizations during their 6th grade year, received them at their 11 year old check- up, or receives them during the Summer break, please send a copy of the shot record to the school nurse.
All students entering 7th grade in August 2020 are required to have the Meningococcal vaccine (documented as Menactra, Menacwy, Menveo, or MCV4), a Tdap within the last 5 years and have had 2 varicella immunizations , ( unless they have had the chicken pox illness).
You may email these records to the School Nurse or Attendance clerk, fax them to the school, download them at registration, or bring them to the school. You may want to contact your Doctor’s office or clinic as soon as possible to avoid any delay in obtaining the required shots or records
Please be aware that students entering 7th grade cannot start school next school year without these shots or a notarized exemption.
Thank you.
If you have any questions please contact the School Nurse or the Attendance (PEIMS) School Nurse
Staff Spotlight
This week our spotlight in on one of out middle school math teachers, Mr. Vochatzer or otherwise known as Mr. V. Here are some tidbits about Mr. V:
This is my sixth year at LEISD. Previously, I taught math and coached in Georgetown ISD. After serving as a minister (youth, education, music, children, senior adults) for 25 years, I decided it was time to do something else. After deciding to continue to work with youth, but in a different setting, I entered the alternative teacher certification program at LeTourneau University, Austin. During that time and for 8 years, I also worked for Best Buy as a GeekSquad Agent. My wife, Linda, and I have been married for 40 years. We have two grown children, Paul and Brittani. We also have four grandchildren, Madison, Nicholas, Jack and Henry.
Originally, I'm from Kansas City, MO (GO CHIEFS & ROYALS!). I've also lived in Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, and Kentucky. This is my third trip to Texas. After living 15 years in Pflugerville, we moved to this area. We look forward to many great years of living and teaching in this area. My five years at Prestwick have been mostly spent teaching 6th and 8th grade students. Year one was totally 6th grade PAP curriculum. Year two and three brought about a change to my schedule as I moved to teaching on-level 8th grade and 6th grade Compacted Math. Year four and five, I continued with Compacted Math, but added the 8th grade HS Geometry PAP class.
This year, 19-20, will be spent much like last year, but with the addition of 7th PAP. I'll be teaching 1 section of 6th Compacted Math, 1 - 7th PAP, 1 GAME 7th and 2 sections of HS Geometry to 8th grade students. I have been blessed to have each of the 6th Compacted Math groups twice, once as a 6th grade then back in 8th grade. It's nice to see their growth and they can't tell me their teacher didn't teach them that.
You may call me Mr V, but my last name is pronounced Vo - chat - zer. I have aunts, uncles, cousins that all pronounce the name different. Thankfully, my dad made it simple.
