FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
OVCA High School ~ November 20th, 2020
Hello families!
The last month of the semester always flies by. We've got a much-needed Thanksgiving break coming up, then our interim in Star360, and then we wrap up with final exams. For Star360, we will send additional guidance on that test. Please note that students can only start their test December 1st. Do not take it early! Every student will take reading December 1st and math on December 2nd.
We only have 12 school days left this semester to submit non-finals, which is pretty hard to believe. Please help your student complete any missing assignments and reach out to teachers for help.
- The last day to submit non-finals work is Sunday December 13th at 11:59pm.
- The last day of the semester is Wednesday December 16th.
Upcoming Dates:
11/25-11/27 Thanksgiving Break
12/1-12/4 Star360 Middle of Year Assessments
12/13 @ 11:59pm Lock Date (all non-finals work will close)

Final Exam Schedule
Middle of Year Interim Assessments are almost here! December 1 and 2!
We are approaching Middle of Year (MOY) assessment in the first days of December. These tests, found at the STAR360 website, are very important because it allows us to see if your student is on track to meet their adequate academic growth for the year. It also allows us to see your student’s strengths and areas for further instruction. Additionally, score reports will be sent to learning coaches in the weeks after.
We know student learning and success are important facets of a child’s educational journey. We appreciate the time devoted to completing these required assessments. Here’s how to have the best assessment experience:
- Plan to test on time by carving out a chunk of time each day to complete the tests. The tests take on average 30 minutes but could be more or less time depending on the student.
- A quiet environment free from distraction, along with a pencil and paper, will help set the environment for you to be successful.
- Do not rush through. These tests are crucial to what we do as educators.
Students who rush may be locked out of the test and/or have to redo their test to earn credit in the class. Thank you for taking your time and doing your very best!
If you get locked out of the test due to inactivity, the password to get back in as admin.
Eat, drink, and get plenty of sleep before you test! This will help your brain to focus better.
All students in 9th-12th grades will take Star360 assessments for math and reading.
Teachers have these assessments on their plan for following days:
Tuesday 12/1 – Reading
Wednesday 12/2 - Math
These tests should be taken as soon as possible and are mandatory for every student.
Please reach out to your math/English teacher or lead teacher Mrs. Bryant if you have any login troubles vabryant@okvirtual.org.

Tutoring Program Available for OVCA Students
We are excited to announce our school’s new Tutoring Initiative! OVCA will offer personalized academic tutoring based on your child’s needs with an emphasis in the subjects of English Language Arts (Reading/Writing) and Mathematics.
At this time, our new tutoring program will be completely virtual through an online service called TutorMe. Through this program, your child will be able to access a tutor at any time of the day to work on any subject. While the emphasis will be in math and reading, tutors for all subjects are available. The tutor will work with your child’s curriculum to help them improve their grades and gain confidence. The focus of tutoring is to equip your child with different methods of learning so they can have life-long skills in how to best solve problems for assignments, homework and projects.
