Poverty and the Brain
Learn Emotional Impacts, Strategies to Apply, Plus More!
The Southern Indiana Education Center crafts their work around the needs of the students in our region. Poverty impacts so many of our students and affects every area of their life. Based largely on Eric Jensen’s Poor Students, Rich Teaching, this workshop will help educators better understand what is happening with some of their most challenging students. It will also provide tools for how to regulate emotions and behavior, engage the most difficult students, and enhance cognition through long-term memory.
Session Outcomes:
Better understanding of how poverty affects students neurologically, physically, behaviorally, & cognitively
Methods to help teachers remain calm and positive when faced with student challenge
Procedures to facilitate healing and resilience in students from trauma and poverty
Strategies to improve student performance, understanding, and achievement
Exploration of mindsets that support positive healing and growth
Please plan on joining us on April 12 for a session that will help you see yourself and your students in new ways. See below for more information!
