Welcome Back Pirates!
We believe in creating an open avenue for communication between school and home. The Barry News is only one of these avenues. We also have a Facebook page, Twitter account, and school website that will be frequently updated throughout the school year. Please access these sites to keep in touch with all of the news and events taking place at Barry.
We have so much to look forward to this year! We will use this newsletter to share our building focus areas, goals, and progress throughout the year.
Barry School Hours: 7:40-2:50 Breakfast Begins at 7:25! Students may enter the building at 7:25.
Welcome Aboard!

Hall Pass
We will continue to use the Hall Pass Visitor Management System to improve overall building safety/security. The system will:
Conduct a screening on each visitor using the sex offender registry
Log in volunteers to track their hours
Be used to document late arriving students.
Whenever any non-student or non-district employee requests to enter any area of the building where children are accessible (essentially anywhere beyond the front office) or requests to check-out a student, they will be asked to produce a government issued ID:
State driver’s license
State issued ID
Passport
US Military ID
Permanent resident card
The ID will be scanned and a badge will be given to visitors or the student check-out will be processed. This new process is a key to maintain and improve the safe and caring environment we have established for our students and staff. If you have any questions, please contact the school office at 816.436.9623.
Chromebooks (Grades 6-8)
Important Information About Student Chromebook Devices
We are continuing our One-to-One Learning Initiative, with each 6-12th grader in the Platte County School District being issued a Chromebook laptop computer to expand their learning beyond the four walls of our schools. For more information about the District’s One-to-One Learning Initiative, click here.
When Will Students Receive Their Devices/Should Bring Their Devices
Returning students (grades 7-8) who took their Chromebooks home over the summer, should bring their charged devices to school on the second day of school (August 16). 6th grade students, students new to the district, and returning students who did not take their devices home over the summer, will receive their Chromebooks during the first few days of school.
Enrolling for Insurance: Complete at Registration Day
The enrollment fee for insurance is $30, which can be paid at your student’s registration day. If families enroll in insurance and complete the necessary forms, students will be allowed to take the Chromebook home, and will have protection for accidental damage. For information on the insurance program, click here. For a guide on enrolling for insurance, click here. If any repair/replacement charges are outstanding, families will also be asked to resolve these at registration day.

August 7 (2 p.m.-6 p.m.): 7th Grade Registration and Photos

Please stay clear of the 7 foot area marked by a yellow line during arrival and dismissal. Do not drop students off at the front doors. Students will enter the school through the doors directly west of the main entry.
Bus Riders
Buses will drop students off at the doors on the east side of the building. Buses will use the east parking lot entrance at the front of the building. Please stay clear of the bus rider area during arrival and dismissal.
