Ixonia Elementary School
September 11, 2020 - Falcon Flyer
Extended Absences & Access to Learning
At any time you can access your child's classroom by clicking the button below and finding your child's homeroom teacher. These are updated at the start of each week. However, it is best to check the daily assignment at 8:00 a.m. or later to see the most updated version of what is being taught that day.
Because our school devices are not insured by families, devices are only being sent home if an illness is anticipated to be 5+ days. Otherwise, if you'd like to access these assignments for shorter absences, you will need to utilize your own home device.

NEW PICK-UP & DROP-OFF PROCEDURES
NEW 9/11/20: Just a couple other tips to keep the end of day pick-up moving swiftly:
- Please be mindful about where you stop your vehicle on North Street waiting to come into the parking lot. We want to make sure we are keeping resident's driveways clear in the case they need to get in/out.
- We understand you may have a need to leave your vehicle to buckle your child in a carseat/booster. If you're comfortable, you can pull around curve of the drive, past the shed, to get out to buckle and not feel as rushed. If you'd rather stay in the line, please just be careful getting out with cars possibly passing you on the left.
Tips from the email sent earlier this week:
- When you pick up, please place the card on your visor or in the right corner of your windshield. Seeing your last name will allow us to get students prepared to get into your vehicle and move the process along more quickly.
- While our gate will be open earlier in the morning, please hold your child in the vehicle until 8:20.
- If you are changing your after-school plans, you must let your teacher know or submit the form in the Falcon Flyer. Otherwise, we may send the bus on before we know you are here.
- As you drive in, please stay as much to right as possible. When you get to the main playground area, please pull tight to the yellow line. Daycare vans or other special transportation may need to pass you.
- When you arrive, please pull up as far as you can allowing other cars to pull up behind you. This will get vehicles off the road backing up traffic.
- Please try not to get out of your vehicle as cars might be passing you on the left side and we won’t want any injuries.
- If your car is loaded, you may pull out into the left passing lane and proceed out of the line.
Picking Up or Dropping Off in the Middle of the Day
Once you arrive at school,
- Enter vestibule using the main doors
- Sign in/sign out your child using the clipboard located on the table
- Wait there and we will have your child come to you
Just a reminder that in an effort to minimize additional germs in our building,
no visitors are allowed beyond the office at this time.
Library Past Due Fees during COVID
We will resume a modified library check-out process at Ixonia Elementary School starting the week of September 14.
Free Meals
USDA EXTENDS FREE SUMMER MEAL PROGRAM
On Monday, August 31, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service unexpectedly announced the extension of their free student meals program that began during the summer. As a result, student breakfast and lunch will be free on the days that students are learning at school face-to-face, and the days that students are learning virtually. This free meal program will continue until the USDA confirms that funding is no longer available or until December 31, 2020, whichever comes first.
When this free meal program ends, families will be charged for meals through their child’s Skyward Family Access account based on their student meal status, whether free, reduced or standard price. Click the HERE for more information on receiving free and reduced student meals after the free meal program ends.
It still is important for families who are eligible for Free and Reduced Lunch to apply and complete the application now as allows you access to other benefits within our district regarding potential fee waivers, etc.

Substitute Teachers & Paras Needed
Every year we are in need of substitutes to fill in when teachers are out of the classroom. With the upcoming school year being one that will potentially challenge us to fill our classrooms, I ask for you to consider substitute teaching! It really can be a part of the solution to help our schools stay open. We are in need:
- Classroom teacher subs (which require a 2- or 4-year degree) – $125/day
- Paraprofessional subs (which require a high school diploma) – $13/hour
Subbing is a great part-time job as it offers daily flexibility and allows you to choose your preferred location and frequency of work! Even subbing one day per week would be a huge help.
Attached below is information regarding subbing in the Oconomowoc School District. Substitute teacher training & a DPI license is required to help you feel prepared for this position. (Training is NOT required for paraprofessional subs.) There are a variety of training options available in our area, but here is some information on an online program for $100. https://www.cesa6.org/services/substitute-teachers/ The district will reimburse all candidates for the costs of their DPI license.
To help us get a sense of those who may be interested, please fill out this interest form: https://forms.gle/jsei8a23VoFAUPN28.
Questions can be directed to our HR department, which can be found on the flyer. FEEL FREE TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH FAMILY OR FRIENDS WHO MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED!
Birthday Celebrations
We will still be celebrating all students on their birthdays and half birthdays with an announcement in the morning, sticker and pencils as well as individual classroom acknowledgements.
In order to keep our environment as safe as possible, we will not be having any birthday food treats or other items distributed that are brought from home.
Lanyards and other Spiritwear to Purchase Coming Soon!
Interested in another Ixonia Elementary Lanyard? Did your student lose his/her lanyard? Or does Mom or Dad, or Grandma and Grandpa want one? You can purchase one for only $2! Please send an envelope to school with $2 cash inside and our wonderful secretary Christy will return the envelope with a lanyard inside. It's that easy!
We are also creating an online Ixonia Elementary Spirit Wear store if any families are interested in purchasing sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, etc. to show your Ixonia Pride and support your PTO. We create an online store and then send you the link. Items are ordered through the website and then shipped to the school and your student will bring your items home in their backpack. Stay tuned on Facebook for more information! And if you haven't liked our Facebook page yet, please click below and follow Ixonia PTO!! Thank you!

Volunteer & Chaperone Background Checks
Would you like to volunteer or chaperone a field trip at the school? All school volunteers must pass a background check prior to volunteering.
The Oconomowoc Area School District is now using SecureVolunteer to process criminal background checks for volunteers. All volunteers must be screened prior to volunteering for a school event or in a building.
SecureVolunteer is a completely web-based/paperless system. BIB takes personal data security and privacy very seriously and has instituted safeguards to protect personal data.
Background checks are good for 3 years.
Thank you for volunteering in the Oconomowoc Area School District. We appreciate YOU!
