Eddy Update
Our Warrior Returns!
He's Back!!!
The day finally came! Eddy returned to school at Saeger on Thursday, May 18. On Eddy's first day of school he was greeted with a cheering crowd of Saeger students. The orange house threw Eddy a donut party to celebrate his return to school! Eddy is starting out with half days and will transition to full days of school very soon! His health has been steadily getting better and there are still no signs of rejection!

In Our Hearts Forever
Seeing Saeger students support Eddy and his family throughout this entire school year has been quite the uplifting experience. Eddy is a daily reminder to all of us what perseverance and determination can accomplish. On his toughest, most painful days Eddy never gave up his hope and optimism that things would work out. Eddy endured the 5 months of waiting for his new heart like a champ; he always had a smile on his face and a hug waiting whenever someone came to visit.
Even the day of Eddy's surgery, when he Skyped me to share the news that a heart was ready for him, he was cheerful and smiling and sure that everything would work out just fine. In this face of his own mortality, minutes before going into open-heart surgery, Eddy stayed brave, strong, and most importantly optimistic. I strongly believe this sense of hope is part of what helped Eddy pull through. His very existence is a beautiful reminder of all the important things in life. Knowing Eddy and his family has changed how I see the world, how I see Saeger and our students. Our sense of community and purpose has been revived and renewed, thanks to Eddy and all his life means to us.
