Wilson's Weekly
January 7-11, 2019
Math
On Tuesday, we will be solving algebra problems that include multiples of 6 & 7. Wednesday, the students will be completing a progress monitoring assessment, so we can assess which students need additional small group instruction with Math standards that we have already covered this year. Thursday, the students will learn how to solve Math equations that contain parentheses. Friday, all 3rd graders will be taking the I-Ready Math Assessment, so we can see their progress from the beginning of the school year.
Reading
On Tuesday, we will begin a new unit focusing on comprehension of nonfiction while learning about the Titanic. Our first lesson will be centered around the author's purpose for writing a book. Is it to persuade, inform, or entertain? Next, we will discuss the differences between an autobiography and a biography. Thursday, all 3rd graders will be taking the I-Ready Reading Assessment. We will be able to see all of the progress they have made during 2nd Quarter. Friday, we will practice differentiating between facts and opinions.
Writing & Spelling
This week, the students will finish typing their informational writing piece.
In Spelling this week, we will work with digraphs (th, sh, ch & tch), analogies, and context clues.
Science
We are now launching our second Project Lead the Way or PLTW unit - Variation of Traits. On Tuesday, the students will be taking a trait survey to see what inherited traits are apparent in their physical appearance. Wednesday, we will take a look at the results of this survey and choose a trait to investigate to see how common its occurrence is among our classmates. Thursday, the students will learn about genotype (our genetic code) and phenotype (how our genotype is expressed). Friday, the students will be setting up a plant experiment that involves 3 generations of plants - grand-parents, parents, & child.
