Whakatau welcome
We have had 18 new students start their journey at Pinehill School over the last few weeks. We look forward to welcoming our new students and their families on Monday at 9:00am in the hall with a school whakatau. All are welcome to join.
‘NZ Shake Out’
We continue to keep up to date with our emergency procedures and drills. These are practiced each term and reviewed thoroughly. Last Thursday along with many other schools and businesses across NZ, Pinehill School participated in the ‘NZ Shake Out’, which is our national earthquake drill. We played the audio announcement over our loud speaker system and classes all practiced the ‘drop, cover and hold’ actions. We were very impressed with how diligent and responsible the children were throughout the drill.
Hats
With the weather getting warmer, our students need to wear a hat each day. Hats are compulsory for Term 4. If students are not wearing hats at lunch time, they are directed to play under the trees or in the shaded areas. We also recommend that you make sure your child has sunscreen applied each morning so that they are protected during the day.
ERO
At Pinehill School, we are working with ERO under their new operating model. This model has replaced their traditional reviews held every 2-5 years. We are looking forward to working collaboratively with our ERO partner, Kay Lowe around our goals. Kay will have an ongoing relationship with us and will work with our school over time. The evaluation process will be collaborative and respond to the context of our school. We look forward to welcoming Kay to Pinehill School at our whakatau on Monday.
Here is what ERO is aiming for with us:
A collaborative approach - ERO will work with each school to strengthen its systems, plans and practices through evaluation.
A tailored approach - Understanding each school’s individual contexts, culture, strengths and needs.
A flexible approach - ERO will work with each school to ensure the way the model works is practical and can be refined and improved over time.
A targeted approach - To allow us to direct more resources into working with the schools that will benefit most and to focus more on system evaluation and improvement.
An evidence-informed approach - that focuses on the things that we know from research and practice make the biggest difference, and that ensures schools are better supported to monitor and assess the impacts.
I have attached for your information - ERO newsletter 'Sharing the Mahi'
A lot has changed at Pinehill School since the last onsite ERO review which was over 5 years ago in 2016 and we are really looking forward to working with ERO under this new model.
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini
Success is not the work of one but the work of many.

Worries
Part of The Resilience Project programme is encouraging students to name how they are feeling, why they are feeling that way, and how to help themselves or seek help if they need it.
In Room 11, the Year 2 students have been discussing what a worry is and what some of the things are that do worry them. The intention was for them to recognise that we can control some of our worries.
Through discussion, they started to sort these worries into 2 types: worries they can control and worries that they can’t control. They discussed options for dealing with different worries, as well as adults who could help them with their worries.
Thanks for sharing, Room 11.
