Mandatory Band Parent Meeting Monday

From the Director

And the whirlwind continues!! Things just keep ramping up for the Jaguar Band.

The Saturday we saw the Jaguar Band head into the USBands Austin’s Finale to defend their 2021 Title of Grand Champions. The students did not disappoint in their efforts and gave two awesome performances in Prelims and Finals. In the end, your Jaguar Band finished as the 2022 USBands Austin Finale Grand Champions and swept all captions which included Best Music, Best Visual, Best Percussion, Best Color Guard and Best Overall Effect. We are also excited that Hays CISD dominated the top of the leader board in finals with the Hays High School Hawk Band finishing in 2nd place edging out the Weiss HS band which finished 3rd. Congratulations to all of these young musicians on great weekend!

We are just days away from heading towards, not only a Johnson High School history-making moment, but a Hays CISD history-making moment. No band in Hays CISD has ever competed at this level on the national stage! This was a goal that was actually put in place the day the JHS Band Staff was hired! One of the original goals was to develop a program worthy of traveling to Indianapolis, Indiana, and competing in the Bands Of America Grand Nationals! That goal achievement and competition day will be here in less than a week!! We hope that the students and parents are as excited and pumped for this momentous occasion as we are.

We have two JHS rehearsals this week on Monday and Tuesday from 5 - 8 p.m. as we approach this incredible event! These rehearsals have to be incredibly focused, high-energy and full-out committed to performing at the highest level on every beat, of every move, of every rep! We need to continue to elevate our efforts and production this week. We will focus on fine tuning the little details, adding new aspects both visually and musically and increasing the overall quality of our upcoming performances! We can no longer say we are approaching that final push; it has officially arrived and the time is now! Let’s do this!!!!

Please remember that the parent meeting regarding the bands travel to Indy is Monday at 6:30!!! When you finish the meeting, if there is time, you are welcome to walk over to watch the remainder of Monday night rehearsal in the stadium at JHS. The band's final run for the rehearsal will be at 7:50 p.m.

Let’s have an incredible week as we prepare to make history! Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow are each “A Great Day To Be A Jaguar”!

The Beat--A weekly update for Percussion specific information

The time has come! This is going to be an amazing week for our program and I cannot wait for our students to perform in Lucas Oil Stadium! It is a very short week here in TX so make sure you start preparing all of the items you will need for the trip now. We will have rehearsal Monday as normal 5-8. Tuesday is our last rehearsal of the season in TX. We will not have our front ensemble equipment so front ensemble members will need to bring sticks and a practice pad with them Tuesday. The Drumline and Sousaphones will using borrowed instruments for this rehearsal since our equipment trucks are leaving for Indy on Tuesday morning.

PASIC

The band boosters have agreed to pay for the students entry to PASIC. Any parents that will be joining us will need to pay the band boosters the $30 fee as we will be paying for the total number of people all together. We are getting an incredible rate because we are a BOA Grand National performing group. Normally these passes would be well over $300 per person. I will be submitting a list of names to PASIC first thing Monday morning so they can print our passes. I will then pick these up once we arrive at the convention center and distribute them to everyone on Thursday night. These passes are for the entire weekend which will allow us to attend when we can fit it in our busy schedule.

Currently the only planned time there will be on Friday after our performance from 10am - 5pm. Students will need to bring whatever they need for the day with them that morning. After we perform we will store our instruments, get changed and then attend the convention. Our storage room is in the same convention center as PASIC. We will play it by ear and see how everyone is doing throughout the day. We will have group meet up times and attend specific events together. This is such an awesome event and our kids are going to love it! We will see what the schedule looks like on Saturday pending results but there MAY be another time to get back over there for some additional sessions. I know Ms. Bevill has put together a list of parents/family members that are planning to go. If you have not responded to her yet and still want to attend please let me know by 9am tomorrow morning. Please reach out with additional questions.

COMMUNICATION

Service Hours

The JHS Band Boosters have created a form for band students to track their band volunteer service hours. (Click the previous sentence to link to the form.) This form is similar to what is used by other organizations such as the NHS and puts control of volunteer service hours tracking in the students hands. Students should print and use this to log for all band related volunteer service hours and ensure completion of all fields including supervisor signature. Parents signatures are not accepted. Follow all details on the form to turn in the logs in the spring to be considered for Band Student Service Awards at the Band Banquet or for logging volunteer service for Letterman Jacket points. Any questions, contact banquet@johnsonbands.com or secretary@johnsonbands.com. This form should be used for all hours since the Band Banquet last spring. Multiple forms may be submitted to track all of your volunteer service.
