Modified Virtual Days

As outlined in the school calendar, Friday, October 7, 2022, is our first Modified Virtual Day. Students do NOT report to their school building on this day. Instead, they will work synchronously (live virtual instruction) during the morning.* Please watch for additional communication from your child’s teacher or principal regarding specific schedules for these days.

We have included these days in the calendar to allow our staff valuable collaborative time in the afternoons to work together as grade-level/content-level teams to plan and enhance instruction. Many districts are providing opportunities for staff collaboration through the utilization of in-person half days. Unfortunately, in a district the size and makeup of Cumberland Valley, in-person half days are not always the most efficient use of time and resources. As such, modified virtual days provide a balance between live instruction and necessary staff collaboration.

The schedule for Modified Virtual Days is as follows:

  • Friday, October 7, 2022 (K-12)

  • Thursday, December 8, 2022 (CVHS 10-12 campus ONLY)

  • Friday, January 27, 2023 (K-12)

  • Monday, March 27, 2023 (K-12)

  • Friday, April 21, 2023 (K-12)

As always, please reach out to your child's building with any specific questions. Thank you!

* In the event that a teacher will be absent on a virtual learning day, students will be assigned asynchronous material to complete. The teacher will communicate with students regarding the absence and expectations for completion of assigned course material.

Big picture

Emergency Communication/Official Channels for Communication

Please ensure that contact information - to include both home contacts and emergency contacts - for your child(ren) is up-to-date in Skyward as this is what is used to reach families in the event of an emergency, a change in schedule due to weather, transportation delays, etc.

It is also important to ensure that you only look for communication via our official channels. You may click the link below to be directed to a webpage that includes a chart illustrating the various ways our stakeholders can connect through our official channels with individual staff, a specific school building, and the district.

CV YOU Day: Community Volunteers Needed

Cumberland Valley High School's CV YOU Day program is fast approaching (November 17, 2022), and we still need community members to facilitate workshops for our students. It will be a great day to share your real-life work experiences with students at Cumberland Valley High School. We highly encourage you to please consider registering to be a part of this event; our young people need to hear from you as they begin to prepare for their futures.

We hope to close out workshop registrations on September 30, 2022. If you're able to participate, please complete our registration form as soon as possible.

1:1 Device Insurance

As a reminder, the deadline to enroll in our voluntary 1:1 device insurance program is November 4, 2022. Cost is $25 per student per year, with waivers in place for families facing economic hardship and families with four or more students. While not required, we strongly encourage parents/guardians to take advantage of this program as this optional insurance will help to decrease the out-of-pocket expenses families may have related to device damage.

Please reference the email sent to all families on September 15, 2022, for more enrollment details. Additionally, more info about the 1:1 program, including details about damage/insurance and device care/support, is also available on our website by clicking here.

Reminder: PA's Free Breakfast Program

Gov. Tom Wolf announced on Friday that beginning on October 1, 2022, all Pennsylvania schoolchildren, regardless of family income, will receive free breakfast for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year. Our Food Service Department is diligently working through the logistics of the program, and we will share more information as it becomes available.

Of important note, this is for breakfast ONLY during the 2022-23 school year.

As a reminder, the national waiver that previously provided free meals during the pandemic has expired. However, if your child qualifies for free meals through the State (also known as direct certified) or if you have completed a free/reduced application and have received a letter stating your child is eligible to receive free meals, they WILL also get free lunch at school. If you have any question regarding your child’s meal status, please do not hesitate to contact the Food Service office.

Families who are not direct certified or who have not already completed an application for the 22-23 school year may CLICK HERE to complete a free/reduced meals application at any time throughout the year to determine eligibility. An application is not required for PA's 2022-23 free breakfast program.
