Bourchier Mail
School Newsletter - 9th Edition - 9th June 2022
from the principal
Dear Families
Hope you are all keeping warm…this week has certainly been a cold wet one!!
Several children have enjoyed playing in water and mud! While it has been good to see them having so much fun the consequences of wet muddy clothing has not been good. Trying to keep everyone away from our damp areas has been challenging.
Camp
Our Year Six children are having a wonderful time at Wombat Corner camp this week. From all reports the cold wet weather has not dampened their spirits. They will end their camp today with a ride on Puffing Billy.
Performance
On Tuesday some lucky children, randomly selected, went to Melbourne to see Baker Boy perform at Hamer Hall. After a very early 6am start they were entertained by this famous rapper / singer. Our children from years 4, 5 and 6 were very impressed, enjoyed the performance and loved travelling on the bus to and from Melbourne.
Incursion
Dinosaurs last week were certainly popular with our Foundation and Year Ones students. This incursion entertained our children with many facts and models. Dinosaur stories are now very popular.
Reports
Teachers are busy writing reports at the moment. These will be available to families to access on compass during the last week of this term. If you wish to discuss these or any other aspect of your child’s learning and development there are student learning conferences available. Feel free to select a time on compass and book in.
Please remember that tomorrow, Friday 10 June, is a “no school” day for all students. Staff will be involved in planning for semester two. Enjoy an extra long week end.
Kind regards
Denise

Police school Program - Y 5 & Y 6
Leigh is a Proactive Policing officer, working in the Multicultural and Youth engagement areas, stationed at the Shepparton Police station.
Leigh has initiated, the Term Police in Schools program at Bourchier Street Primary School, with the wonderful support of the school and has linked in with the Neighbourhood Policing model, which is a new model of community policing and engagement, as set out by the Chief Commissioner. Police are proactively engaging with the community and are being encouraged to work with them, to enhance trust and confidence in the work police do.
Working with school students/staff and school communities is a vital part of interacting and engaging with our local community. The students at Grade 5 and 6 level have four separate class visits and apart from getting to know local police, are taught about Civics and Citizenship, Respect, Role of Police, Laws, Cybersafety/Bullying, courts and also partake in engaging activities.
dinosaurs come to bourchier street
Foundation students were lucky enough to have Museum's Victoria bring REAL fossils and awesome dino artefacts to Bourchier Street Primary School last Tuesday. Wendy introduced us to Melbourne Museum's newest dinosaur, the triceratops, that came all the way from America! Students were able to touch and feel the fossils that included a Muttaburrasaurus skull, a fern imprint and even some fossilised dino poop! We learned so much about dinosaurs and how they became fossils, as well as what they ate and the fossil emblem of Victoria, Koolasuchus. It was such a fun and engaging experience for our Foundation learners.
