Welcome to Parkview Elementary School!
It is an honor and privilege to welcome each and every one of you to our school. We have a record breaking 50+new families attending Parkview this fall. Whether you are brand new or have been a part of the Parkview family for years, we are so excited to begin the new year with you. We begin this year celebrating the end of construction and the excitement of moving into a newly renovated facility. We look forward to celebrating with all of you at the ribbon cutting ceremony in late August. Parkview Elementary is a student centered community focused on helping children and families learn, grow and achieve. We are dedicated to quality instruction that promotes academic excellence through an enriched and rigorous curriculum. As a staff, we are here to support all of you, by any means necessary, and to assist children as they learn and develop skills and talents. We look forward to working with you, our parents and members of the community to provide a high-quality education for all children.
Our goal is to help children become critical thinkers, active problem-solvers, inquisitive readers and proficient writers. We look forward to working with all of you as we pursue excellence together. Together We Grow! Please let me know if I can be of assistance to you. You can reach me at (219) 531-3110 or awodetzki@valpo.k12.in.us. We are looking forward to a fantastic year.
Back To School Night For Parents - August 22
We are sending out a special invitation for you to attend our Back To School Night on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 6:00 - 7:30 PM. This evening is for parents as there will not be any child centered activities. The evening will begin with a PTA meeting in the new gym at 6:00 pm. There will be a brief principal's message and then parents will be asked to visit your child's classroom and participate in a short teacher presentation. Important information will be shared as we want to partner with you to make sure your child has a successful year.
Visitors Information
Visitors are always welcome at Parkview. As a reminder, if you are planning on volunteering to work in classrooms, chaperone a field trip and/or visit for lunch, you will need to complete a background check. Everyone must complete a new background check each year. Background checks are available online and in the Parkview Office. All Parkview visitors will be asked to have an up to date background check on file. Parents are welcome to come for lunch, however, for security and safety purposes, parents and younger siblings will not be allowed on the playground during recess times.
Dismissal Plans
With a new facility and many exits we want to partner with you to make sure students leave school and arrive home safely. We understand that situations arise when you will need to change plans for pick-up and or transportation home at the end of the day. In order to maintain a safe and organized campus and avoid errors and confusion will be implementing the following procedures:
- When parents wish for dismissal plans to change from the original transportation form submitted during registration, a written note will need to be submitted at the beginning of the day. Phone calls, faxes and emails will not be accepted.
- Any change in regularly reported dismissal patterns must be submitted in writing by the parent/guardian. Without written notice, we will follow the regular dismissal for each child.
Car Rider Procedures
Dismissal can often be confusing for both parents and their children. The actions of children are often unpredictable. Accidents can happen in a split second. At Parkview, we have established good safety procedures. Please assist us by following the procedures listed below:
· Parents planning on picking up children should join the car line on Wood Street and follow the arrows through the new parking lot. Remember to have your car sign visible with your child’s last name printed boldly. Children will not be delivered to a car unless a school issued car sign is in the passenger window.
- · Do not go around, pass other vehicles or drive in the wrong lane.
- · As always please remember to maintain a safe speed.
- · Avoid blocking neighborhood driveways.
- ·Parents meeting their child to walk home should meet them near the flag pole.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation, time and energy to make sure each child gets home safely.
ISTEP+ Student Report
The 2018 ISTEP+ results are now available through the Indiana Parent Network. Parents of students in grades 4 & 5 will want to take some time to review activation code in the Indiana Parent Network. The Parent Network is a website where you can view ISTEP+ results and reports. . If you do not have this information or are having difficulty with your son or daughters ISTEP+ results please contact the Parkview office at (219) 531-3110.
Reporting an Absence
If your son or daughter is ill and has a fever they should stay at home. To report an absence, please call the school office at 531-3110 before 9:00AM. You may also report an absence by sending an email to Mrs. Clifford at Parkview. Her email is: cherylclifford@valpo.k12.in.us. We would also appreciate hearing from you if your child has a morning appointment outside of school.
Encouraging a Healthy Lifestyle
Help us promote a healthy lifestyle for the children of Parkview by following the guidelines below:
· No Fast Food items or Soda Pop for lunches
· Discuss ways to celebrate and be supportive other than junk food, candy and baked goods. Let’s celebrate Birthdays, but not with food items. Please do not send birthday treats to school.
PTA News
One of the best ways to become involved in your child’s education is to join the PTA. The Parkview PTA provides both resources and activities that enrich their educational experience. Regular PTA meetings are held the first Wednesday evening of every month at 5 PM in the lounge. It would be fantastic if every family at Parkview would join the PTA!
