Fourth Grade
Fourth grade focused on what things need to be known before deciding on a future career. These items include their interests (what they like), skills (what they are good at), values (what they hold special), and job duties. Students completed a thirty question career interest quiz that helped them discover their current career cluster. Students discussed that careers are in clusters because some jobs have similar interests or do similar things. The six clusters are: Human Services, Agricultural Sciences, Communication Arts, Health Sciences, Business Services, and Technical Sciences. After finding their career cluster, students explored potential careers in their cluster. Each student discovered one career that interested them the most and completed further research on the job. Students had a "job wanted" worksheet that guided them to identify job duties, skills, values, and work place for their interested career. Feel free to explore this kid friendly job search engine to continue this topic with your student found here. Also, ask your student what careers interest them and encourage them to explore the "why" on their job interests!

Counseling Lessons in December
K-5th
Starting this month, we will begin covering a safety tip of the month for the remaining school year. In December all of our students learned about personal safety. This safety tip was covered by our monthly counseling lesson where students learned that personal safety is how we keep ourselves safe. Students discussed unsafe and safe situations and what makes a situation unsafe. This also included how unsafe situations make us feel and how to protect ourselves. Students expressed what they should do in unsafe situations: tell a trusted adult. Students identified who their trusted adults are and were reminded that as a Pepcat we want to make sure all students are staying safe. This lesson is mandated from State Law due to Erin's Law being implemented in TN. Erin's Law requires schools across the state of Tennessee to provide age-appropriate instruction to students PreK-12 on personal body safety and abuse. If you would like to find out more information on this law, click here. For more information on how to prevent child abuse (including sexual, mental, and physical abuse), feel free to visit the Stop Child Abuse website here.
