WHS ACT Information
The ACT is a national college admissions examination that consists of four-multiple choice tests: English, Math, Reading and Science. The ACT Plus Writing includes the four subject area tests and a 30-minute Writing Test. The ACT takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete with breaks, or just over four hours if you are taking the Writing Test. Actual testing time is 2 hours and 55 minutes (plus 30 minutes if you are taking the Writing Test.)
WHO should take the ACT? Generally most college-bound students will need to take one of the college admission tests offered. Students should consult the institutions to which they are applying to determine if they require the ACT for admission.
WHEN do the students take the ACT? It is typically recommended for high school students to take the ACT in the spring of their junior year, however, many choose to take the ACT in the fall of their junior year. The ACT is administered six times a year.
Should I take the ACT PLUS WRITING? Some colleges and universities have decided to REQUIRE or to RECOMMEND that their applicants submit scores from the ACT Writing Test. Others have decided Writing Test scores are not needed; their applicants do not need to take the test. We suggest that you check directly with the institutions you are considering to find out their requirements.
"Preparing for the ACT" practice booklets are available in the Guidance Office, and online here.
