Teacher Appreciation Week - May 7th - 11th
Our teachers are some of the most dedicated, hard working people on this planet! Please join us in taking a moment to let them know how much they are loved and appreciated. The PTO has planned a small treat each day, and the school will host a staff pizza party on Friday. Room Parents are also coordinating classroom wide activities (be on the lookout for an email/letter with more information.) Feel free to show your appreciation personally as well. A hand written note or thank you card from a student or parent is always cherished.

We would also like to thank our Founding Board (Benjamin Rutgers, Emily Rutgers, Amanda Cherkas, Brooke Mustin & Joan Corriveau) for all of their hard work this year! Starting an organization from the ground up is no easy feat, and they did an amazing job while making it look effortless!

Student Placement for 2018-2019
When considering student placement for the upcoming school year there are several criteria we consider to ensure academic success for all of our students.
Our job is to ensure that there is a highly-qualified, passionate teacher in every classroom who believes that all students can learn, and challenges each child to meet his/her potential. Each teacher provides a safe and secure environment for students, and each teacher works with the others on the grade level to plan rigorous yet differentiated lessons.
However, even though our teachers provide input on unique student needs, if you have a concern, we want you to be able to share that information with us. You can do so by completing this electronic form. All forms should be submitted no later than Friday, May 11, 2018. We will not be able to accept forms after that date. The form allows you to write about the type of learning environment that will be most successful for your child, along with any additional information that should be considered. Please note,
we do not honor specific teacher requests in the placement of children at Dyer.

Take 5 Summer Reading Program 2018
What does the research say about summer reading?
“Regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic level, or previous achievement, children who read four or more books over the summer fare better on reading-comprehension tests in the fall than their peers who read one or no books over the summer.” Jimmy Kim, Journal of Education for Students Placed at Risk
Dyer Elementary Media Center invites students to borrow up to five books of their choice. In order to check out books for the summer, students must meet the following criteria:
· Be a student at Dyer Elementary School for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year.
· Return all materials borrowed during the current school year. (All books are due Wednesday, May 9.)
· Have a clean library record: All books and magazines returned. All lost books & fines paid.
· Bring the signed permission form below to the Media Center to check out books during May 16 – May 22, 2018.
· Return all TAKE 5 books to Dyer Media Center by August 7, 2018.
You can refresh your Take 5 books dates: June 12th 10:00am – 12:00pm or June 26th 10:00am -- 12:00 pm. (Mrs. Langford will be at Dyer on those days and times to return/exchange books for children participating in TAKE 5.)
If you would like for your child to participate, look for the permission form in their Friday folder. Or you can download and print one here.
