News and notes for the week of 8/2/2021
We had a blast at the Eastside Memorial ECHS operation Reconnect event!
Back to School Town Halls with Dr. Elizalde
AISD District will host two back-to-school town halls where families can connect directly with
Dr. Elizalde and other district leaders to discuss the upcoming school year. The English language
session will take place on August 4, and the Spanish language session on August 5, both from
6-7 p.m. Participants may choose to view the event virtually via Facebook Live or in-person at
the Performing Arts Center, where childcare, food, and enrollment information will be
available. ASL interpretation and captioning will be provided.
Principal's Message to Hornet Families for the week of August 2nd, 2021
Just two more weeks until our little hornets are back in the building and we are excited! Excited for all the possibility a new year brings, another great year of teaching and learning, and a new group of 6th graders to create A hornet legacy. Hornet orientation camp is next week and we are looking forward to it. We are strongly encouraging mask wearing for all of the upcoming events. Please be on the look out for the student schedule Email on Friday. There is quite a bit of information in this newsletter but it is all worth a look so please take a moment to review this week's news and notes. Have a GREAT Week! #BEGREATmentality.

Kealing Specific Information
We cannot guarantee students choosing the virtual option will:
- receive the elective chosen for the fall semester
- receive instruction from Kealing specific faculty and the curriculum will most likely be the AISD curriculum developed for to use as a strong and rigorous baseline.
However, when a student returns back to in person learning in the spring- we will resume their normal schedule.
2021-2022 Bus Information
Families whose students are eligible for transportation will receive their bus information by
email or letter on Aug 3rd. The district’s “Bus Stop Finder"; will be live on Aug 3rd. Families
whose students have special needs will receive their information in person from their bus
teams starting the second week of August.
AISD’s transportation team offers families the “WheresTheBus” app, which provides timely
information about the location of their student’s bus, including when it will arrive at their stop.
The free app is available on any device with internet access (smartphone, tablet, personal
computer, iPad)—and takes less than five minutes to install. Instructions are available at

AISD Mental Wellness for Families Smores
We are excited to announce that our third 2-sided flyer with mental health resources/strategies
will be distributed to parents/families during Austin ISD food distributions next week. We plan
to create a new Mental Wellness flyer/Smore every two weeks. These
resources are part of a collaboration between Child Study Systems, Social and Emotional
Learning, Health Services, Family and Community Engagement, and Austin ISD Communications.
