Big picture
Dear Richland Families,

This week to commemorate Veterans Day, we honor all who have served or are serving in our military and invite you to send in photos for a wall of honor. We thank all personnel for their service. Please see more information about our photo collection below.

Monday is the last day to order Richland spirit wear. Check out our new items! Delivery will be to Richland in plenty of time for December holidays.

We have many community projects this month including a candy collection for military troops, a food drive for the Quakertown Food Pantry, and a virtual library card drive for family literacy month. Our collection of tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Aluminum Tab Recycling Program is ongoing. Thank you for supporting each other and our community. Keep reading for more information.

Saturday is World Kindness Day. In keeping with our theme of gratitude, Friday will be YOU MATTER Day. We encourage you to share with others why they matter to you and encourage your children to do the same because together we THRIVE.

Have a terrific week!

NEW WAYS NOVEMBER

Big picture
This month, we're encouraging you to try something new! Learning something new or getting involved in an activity that really absorbs and interests us is great for our wellbeing. Keeping our brains active is not only good for us physically but it can help you feel you are flourishing as you see yourself make progress with a new skill, or just make you smile as you make a mess and decide to start again. :) Being playful and trying new things is important, as is remembering that it's OK not to get it right first time - change "I can't do it", into "I can't do it...yet!" This month's calendar is full of ideas to help you decide what to try next.

PRACTICING GRATITUDE

Would you like to express your gratitude to staff members? Click on the Shout Outs image to let us know! I will share messages with staff weekly.

Ronald McDonald House Aluminum Tab Recycling Program

Big picture

Little things can make a big difference. You can help support the Ronald McDonald House and others affected by childhood cancer or anyone else who needs the help from the Ronald McDonald House by collecting the little tabs you pull to open soda, soup or any other aluminum cans. The funds generated from recycling these aluminum tabs help offset The Ronald McDonald House expenses. Send in your tabs to Richland.

We are donating our tabs in honor of Rhiley who is a cancer survivor.

He is a 4th grader at Richland.

WHAT ARE HABIT TICKETS?

Each day, adults in the school building have tickets to give to any student they see exhibiting one of the 7 habits. Once a student receives a Leader Ticket, he or she will go to the office to sign our school Leader Book, pick a number at random for the placement of their ticket on the Leaderboard, and will bring home a postcard to show you so that you may share in their good news! Once the student has a ticket on the board, he or she is eligible to receive the "mystery motivator". When ten tickets in a row are up on the board, those students will spin a wheel to receive a mystery motivator prize. Examples of motivators are extra recess, lunch with Mrs. Zuerblis, and many more.

HOW CAN I HELP AT HOME?

We encourage you to discuss Leader in Me with your child at home. The characteristics of the 7 habits encourage responsibility and ownership of one's actions, as well as other leadership qualities. Ask your child to use the ideas shared at school when at home and in the neighborhood, and routinely check in with your child on how he or she is demonstrating these characteristics in different settings.
