History Workshop

“Content Trumps Business”
John Gray
Elizabeth MacMillan Director
National Museum of American History
The business of museums is content, content, content. Conventional wisdom, at least today, offers that business people (i.e., those who have had successful business careers or who have MBAs) can manage not–for-profits. Gray will argue that it is the ways in which the mind works, that is, strategically, thoughtfully, inclusively, that matters. Understanding the basic principles of economics, finance, and organizational theory are important, but they pale in comparison to content. But then what is content?
This special History Workshop is the culminating presentation of the 40th anniversary year of History Workshop and is co-sponsored by the University of Delaware Library and the Department of History.
