Rules, Warm-up Routines, Fitness Testing Oh My!
We've had a great first 2 weeks in P.E. class going over rules, teaching our warm-up routines and getting ready for fitness testing! Our daily 7-8 minute warm-up routines are structured so that students can practice fitness test components regularly and incorporate fitness into each day.
Here is what our typical weekly warm-up schedule looks like:
- Mileage Mondays: 8 minute jog, followed by hamstring stretch
- Test Prep Tuesdays: Students rotate through fitness test components for 45 seconds each: shuttle run, flexed arm hang, push-ups and curl-ups
- Cardio Choice Wednesdays: Students can choose jump ropes, dribbling a basketball, or jogging for their warm-up activity
- Test Prep Thursdays: Students rotate through fitness test components for 45 seconds each: shuttle run, flexed arm hang, push-ups and curl-ups
- Flex Fridays: Teacher's choice and game days
2nd Graders in Action!
We have played a variety of tagging, throwing and parachute games after warm-ups the last 2 weeks. Here are some pictures of them participating!
August Birthdays!
A Physical Education tradition to highlight birthdays for the month! Every 2nd grader with an August birthday got a chance to roll the big foam dice in front of their peers. The total rolled by the birthday students, divided by the number of rollers, determines how much the group jogs for warm-up. The birthday bunch then get to choose a game collaboratively and they chose Snowball Fight.
