The Bee's Knees
Barfield Early Childhood Center Newsletter October 2019
Message from the Principal
During the October PTO meeting, Lauren presented multiple options for how a portion of the proceeds could be spent. We have had incredible turnout for each of the PTO meetings this year. The PTO Board is always eager to get feedback from parents. Thanks to all those that attended the meeting! The PTO will report which options garnered the most support.
It finally feels like Fall has arrived, and Halloween is right around the corner. At Barfield, we host the Haunted Halls event in the evening during which students wear their costumes and trick-or-treat in the halls. This year we will have food available for purchase and a balloon artist. Staff dress up in our costumes and we give out lots of candy. On October 31, students are welcome to bring their costumes in their backpacks. Staff will help them put them on and they will parade throughout the building. I understand not everyone participates in Halloween festivities. Both the Haunted Halls and the parade throughout the building are optional activities. If, for whatever reason, you prefer your child not participate please send a note to their teacher.

Staff Spotlight: Staci Bailey
I was hired as an Instructional Assistant at Barfield in August of this year. I feel so fortunate to have discovered Barfield Early Childhood Center as a substitute teacher in the district!
In the summer of 2017 my family relocated to this area from North Carolina due to a job change. Now my kids and myself have found our place here in the Wentzville School District.
Before accepting this position at Barfield, I have worked part-time and/or stayed home with my kids for 16 years. My four children aged 18, 16, 11 and 9 have kept me fully entertained and busy throughout the years!
In the upcoming year I plan to build upon my bachelors degree in fine arts to make the most of my education and work experience while working in the classroom. I love that I can laugh and smile every day at my job!!

Some Facts About Head Lice
Where children are present and playing, there is always the possibility of the presence of pediculus humanus capitis (head lice), which means there is a potential for there to be lice at school.
The WSD has aligned nurse practices with both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Association of School Nurses and we ask that parents keep the following information in mind:
Lice are not a disease.
Lice do not reflect unsanitary homes or students.
Lice are absolutely an inconvenience.
By detecting lice early, both parents and nurses can get ahead in the process.
If you have a concern that lice are present in your child’s school or if your child may have come in contact with another person with lice, check him/her frequently and let your school nurse know about the exposure in an effort to catch it before it gets out of hand.
Listed below are links to the American Academy of Pediatrics and the
National Association of School Nurses. There is also a video on what to look for when assessing if your child has head lice.
