Happy School Social Work Week
Celebrate with us on social media using #massw15.
Thanks for all you do to support kids!
A BIG Thanks for all you do for kids! School social workers are a vital link in the school community. You not only counsel children, but staff as well. You bring students, teachers and parents together to work towards understanding and success. You calm the disruptive child so the teacher can get back to educating, and you help kids prevent and resolve conflicts making the building a better place. You are a voice for those kids and families who can't find the courage or words to express their needs. You connect parents with resources, and in some cases, coordinate educational and outside care to help families be less overwhelmed. And for some situations, you find resources for physical needs such as food and housing. You support the school and the people in it- helping kids and teachers be "ready to learn" every day.
Yes, it's a little much at times- especially when you've spent three hours doing paperwork the night before or you're nurturing a bruise that happened three days prior. But you come back with the same compassion, drive and love that you started with when you thought you could change the world. Because every day with every encounter, you do.
MASSW is honored to serve such a great group of people. Please take some time this week to do something nice for yourself and to let your SSW colleagues know that you appreciate them.
