HELLO FALCON FAMILIES!
That's a wrap! Bye-bye 2019-20, hello summer! It was such a joy to see all the teachers at the drive-thru end-of-year pickup and drop-off. We've missed them so much!
So with that, we close out our fundraising drive, and I sign off from my term as president. More on both below.
I think it is safe to say that this school year did not go as we expected, but the McNear community showed grit, resilience, flexibility and positivity, all true Falcon qualities. For sure there will be more challenges ahead, but we've made it through fires, power shut-offs and a pandemic peak in the last eight months alone, so I know we can meet those challenges.
Use the next ten weeks to focus on what's important: family, health, our beautiful environment and each other, and come back in mid-August refreshed and excited for whatever comes next.
Stay safe and healthy,
Neil.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
SPRING FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN RESULTS
When the Wish Benefit was cancelled, there was certainly a lot of concern about the impact it would have on PTA programs for the next school year. Eight weeks on, things certainly look brighter. Thanks to the support of the entire extended community, we just sneaked past the $30,000 mark, which is very close to the ambitious stretch target we set.
The PTA will go into 2020-2021 in a position of solvency, able to continue funding of key programs. We'll have to tighten our belts, for sure, but it could have been so much worse without this successful campaign. Thanks to each and every family who participated.
FAREWELL
The second factor is the kids. No matter how challenging it was balancing the demands of the role, stressing about budgets, soliciting people for Board roles, or anything else, every time I was on campus and saw the kids engaged in activities that PTA has helped in one way or another, it made it all so worthwhile.
I will continue to assist with the transition of the new Board, as well as work on the next major fundraiser, so you'll see me around.
I'll leave you with these final thoughts: right now, there are few things more important to invest time into than your children's education. We'll be relying on the creativity and dedication of these remarkable young people to solve some pretty big problems over the next few years and we need to give them as much of a head-start as possible. Be a part of that. Do something big, or do something small - the most important thing is to do something.
See you at school (sometime),
Neil.
