Principal's Corner
March is a very busy month with all the events coming up around the districts, but it’s also a time of year to remember the importance of reading. Reading at home with your child, or listening to your child read to you is a great way to keep them growing as readers.
So, what exactly is enough? That can be 20 minutes straight, or different reading sessions throughout the day. Want to see just how much 20 minutes can help? Take a look at this article: Just 20 minutes a day is all it takes.
Yours in education,
Christina Johnson
Principal
IMPORTANT REMINDER/REQUEST
We want to be sure that parents are getting the messages from the District in case of inclement weather and/or transportation changes for the day.
Thank you for your assistance!

The theme this year is camping. Each class worked on a different project that relates to camping. We have campers, tents, campfires, firefly jars, hikers, canoers, lanterns, and s’mores.

Notes From Music
Happy March from the Music Room! During the month of February 2nd graders learned about two musicians who played the trombone - Melba Liston and Trombone Shorty. We listened to their music and learned that the trombone is a brass instrument. Both 2nd and 3rd graders celebrated Valentine's day by singing songs. Both grades have also started to learn some folk dancing in lines. 3rd graders have been busy preparing for their music program which is coming up on Tuesday, March 21. More info about that later!

Media Moments
In media class we have been getting ready for our author visit! Students listened to the story Adopted by an Owl by Robbyn Smith van Frankenhuyzen. Then students also watched a video of the real Jackson the owl that is featured in the book. Here is a link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTjS6Hwt5yA. Robbyn Smith van Frankenhuyzen will be visiting Steeby on Monday, March 20th during the day. Students are excited for her visit. Second and third graders are also learning about how to stay safe online. Second graders visited the website: Ruff Ruffman: Humble Media Genius on Information Place: https://sites.google.com/waylandunion.org/libraries/2?authuser=0. Third grade students visited Think You Know: Band Runner and Cyber Surf Island to learn about digital citizenship. Both websites can be found on Information Place: https://sites.google.com/waylandunion.org/libraries/3?authuser=0. It's been a fun and educational month!
Happy Reading and Happy Learning!
