Welcome September!

September is here! We have completed four weeks of solid instruction! We have just announced our August PBIS BCMS Students of the Month! They were selected by each teacher for their commitment to our PBIS motto: "Be Respectful, Courteous, Manage YOUR behavior, and STRIVE for Excellence ...though you will hear me say "ExExExCellence" :) I am very proud of them and need them to be leaders of the schoolhouse as we move forward with our PBIS plan. Our discipline has decreased 61% comparing August 2016 to August 2017 referrals. A huge part of that is because we are committed to building relationships with our scholars and community this school year and we are all 100% ALL IN to our PBIS plan! Please congratulate these awesome scholars and ALL our scholars on a job well done!

Map Testing- Begins this week!

Map Testing will begin for all scholars begins this week!

MAP testing is a great way for our scholars to show how much they have grown and an awesome way for us as teachers to use this data in our planning and lesson designs. MAP tests are designed to measure growth over time, so that makes them very different than our "state tests" known as Georgia Milestones. MAP tests give you tons of great information in regards to achievement at this moment. Here is a great article to read that will give you more information in regards to MAP testing.

We will test our scholars three times a year in the areas of Reading, Math, and Language Usage. These scores will help us determine growth, mastery, lesson designs, and class choices. We will send home reports with scholars once we have concluded the testing.

Notes from Ms. Raeburn

August is in the books! What a FAST, but amazing first month as the Principal of Bryan County Middle School. I am incredibly proud of the decrease in our MAJOR (referrals) and MINOR (referrals) and that work is in large part because of the dedication of our PBIS team and the commitment our staff has made to build relationships with ALL scholars. We know NO significant learning occurs without a significant relationship!

We have some big spirit events this week, but the most important focus for this week is our School Wide Passion Project to the HAWKS at Wertheimer Middle School in Rosenberg Texas. I have reached out to their Lead Learner, Principal Zebold, and we are committed as a school house to collect basic school supplies which I will ship to them this weekend. They are a schoolhouse of 449 scholars. They are scheduled to try to begin school on Monday September 11th. I know as a school house we can collect pens, pencils, glue, erasers, markers, all the basics and send to our friends who are recovering from incredible devastation. Please send in your donations with your child and we will have collection boxes. I can't wait to see our generous hearts and spirits overflow our schoolhouse! THANK you in advance! Here is a link to their schoolhouse: http://www.lcisd.org/campuses/wertheimer/home

A few important dates to remember for September are: Wednesday 9/20 and Thursday 9/21. September 20th is our Local School Council meeting and September 21st is our annual Title One meeting. Please join us! We love talking about all we have planned and begin to think about what else we can do to make sure our scholars are learning, loving, growing, and thriving. I am proud to be your principal and would love to hear from you! If you have a concern or a comment, please do not hesitate to email or call me: eraeburn@bryan.k12.ga.us or 912-626-5050 or 912.255.0630.

Remember: MAP testing begins for all grade levels tomorrow! Look for reports to be sent home and please call me or email with any questions!

Thank you for your partnership and commitment to making #BeBCMS the best middle school on the planet!

BCMS Teacher of the Year

ExExExCitement was everywhere in the schoolhouse on Monday when we announced Mrs. Blaine Ennis as our Bryan County Middle School Teacher of the Year! Tanner Ennis, her son, and current sixth grader, presented her with the award! There was not a dry eye in the house! We are so proud that Mrs. Ennis is going to represent us and be our nomination for Bryan County Schools Teacher of the Year. Please join us for an Open House Reception honoring Mrs. Ennis on September 15th at 7:40 AM.

Whatever I Need!

WIN period is an elite time for our scholars to work on goal setting, grade checking, acceleration of curriculum, and enrichment.

CLUBS will begin this week! Students will be offered the choice of clubs during WIN time on Wednesday and will be placed and assigned to clubs on Friday. We are excited about the opportunities we will be able to provide during CLUB time and we will make every effort to make sure scholars get their first, second, or third choice in CLUBS.

The current WIN Schedule looks like this:

Monday- Goal setting and Grade Checking

Tuesday- Social Emotional Learning (Kindness Project)

Wednesday- Social Emotional Learning OR Academic Enrichment

Thursday- Social Emotional Learning (Kindness Project)

Friday- Clubs or Reading Time

#PassionProjects: Harvey

As a schoolhouse, we are supporting Wertheimer Middle School, home of the HAWKS, in the Lamar School District in Rosenberg Teaxs. HWMS is home to 449 scholars-- much like our own school house. We will be collecting basic school supplies to ship to them. The goal is to get as many pencils, folders, erasers, glue sticks, markers collected by Friday for shipping this weekend. They return to school Sept. 11th. Our thoughts and prayers are with our HAWK friends as they rebuild and get ready for school.

Grade levels have put together amazing ways to support our friends in Texas. Please look for information to come up via each grade level to learn about what the grades have planned in our commitment to spreading KINDNESS and helping all those affected in Texas. #BeBCMS #BCMSGives

Our Coffee Shop is OPEN!

Our scholars in Ms. Jersey's class have opened their Redskin Cafe! The next time you are in our building and need a cup of coffee, they will hook you up! Lily, Sarah, Bailey, AJ, and Jamari know how to make a great cup of coffee and deliver service with a smile! Thank you Ms. Jersey for this amazing, meaningful, authentic learning opportunity that will transfer to real life job skills!
