News from Lions Park School
Letter from the Principal
Thanks to all for starting out the year so safely at arrival and dismissal. It has been noticed recently that some families are parking their cars in drop off zones and leaving the car to drop off/pick up their children. If you wish to meet your child at the door, please park further from the school, away from the drop off zones on School and Council. This will enable others to efficiently and safely drop off their children. I appreciate your courtesy and respect of others.
We recently finished our benchmark assessments in reading and math. Staff are meeting to use this data to plan instruction, form groups within their classrooms and to determine which students may be in need of additional intervention in math or reading from our math support teacher or literacy support teachers. I have observed classes working to become independent at centers or other activities so that teachers can meet with small groups. The assessments and structures for independent learning will enable teachers to target their instruction to meet student needs.
Now that the school year is fully underway, you may be trying to figure out how to balance family time, extracurricular activities and homework. This can certainly be a challenge. While my own children are young and have minimal homework, some days just finding time to read and go through their backpacks can seem difficult. I came across this post recently, and I thought it had some good ideas. In addition to talking about how to set up homework routines, it provides good information about how to frame conversations about school in a way that encourages a growth mindset. If your child does not have much homework or your schedule is more open, take advantage of the extra time to read, have conversations with your child, or go do something together.
Warmly,
Katie Kelly
