Attention 3rd & 4th Grade Families
On February 7th, students in grades 3 & 4 will participate in a statewide readiness test to ensure that Pearson's infrastructure, combined with ours, is capable of handling the volume of students participating in the ISTEP test later this month and spring. In order to prep your child's iPad for this assessment, we need your assistance with two tasks:
- Update your child’s iPad to the latest operating system: If your child is using an iPad 4th generation (or iPad Retina), please make sure the iPad is at iOS 10.3.3.
*If you are using an iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro, or an iPad, please make sure the iPad is at iOS 11.2.5 (the most recent update).
- Install testing app: Also, please go to the app store and download the free Pearson TestNav app. The app can be found here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/testnav/id818779127?mt=8.
Pearson will be blocking any iPad that is not on iOS 10.3.3 or iOS 11.2.5 to run the Pearson TestNav app due to security reasons.
For more information on how to update an iPad wirelessly or hardwired via iTunes (popular choice if the iPad is low on space) please see the following link: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204204.
Should you need any assistance, please feel free to reach out to your child’s school and ask to be connected to the Building Technician.

Calling all runners, walkers, and joggers!
The Geist 5K race is right around the corner and we are excited to participate in the 11th annual race. Ms. Chandler and Miss Pall will again be the team’s coaches. The HRE team has consistently been the largest school team throughout the last 11 years, winning multiple awards in recognition. The team is looking for sponsorship for the team to help keep costs low and provide healthy snacks and hydration to the runners. In return, we will gladly recognize your sponsorship on the back of our t-shirts as we run 3.1 miles around the Geist area. If you or someone you know own a business and are looking for a school sponsorship opportunity to promote healthy choices and an active lifestyle, please contact Ms. Chandler at firstname.lastname@example.org or Miss Pall at email@example.com by February 28th. Thank you in advance for your consideration!

Along with collecting lids, they are looking for people who travel to Evansville during the week to help drop them off. Be Prepared for School Closings and Weather Delays This Winter
The doors to the school will be locked so please do not drop off your children and drive away!! Students will be admitted into the building at 10:45 AM. School will begin at 10:55 AM. No lunch visitors will be allowed on delay days due to an altered schedule.
In cases of extreme weather conditions, the Superintendent of HSE Schools will call a weather day and close all HSE schools. Again, parents will be notified via Skylert and closings will be announced on social media and by local TV stations.
Remember that HSE bus service will run on all school days. We encourage you to have your child ride the provided bus transportation to school so as not to be late -- tardiness due to weather is not excused. If your child attends the Y before/after care, the Y will be open as usual on delay days but will be closed on cancellation days.
Outdoor Recess Happens Year-Round! Remember - please dress your child for the weather
Volunteers & Lunch Visitors Reminder
Per HSE Policy, visitors must have their SafeVisitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the SafeVisitor App (it is available in Google Play or via the app store on the iPhone) or have your badge available when you come into the school. Looking up names can lead to the wrong person being signed in.
Upon leaving, please give your printed badge to the office staff for quick check-out.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Vicki Foutty at 317-594-4100.
