St. Louis Preschool Newsletter
August/September 2017
Parents Corner
We are off to a great start! Each time the children come to school it is amazing to see how they learn, grow and gain confidence. You should be proud of them! I will be sending one newsletter, monthly, for both Tues./Thurs. and M/W/F classes so please pay attention to dates regarding activities. It's nice to see what all the classes are doing.
During the first few weeks of school we will decorate our birthday crowns, make a self portrait, and talk about our favorite things. We also talk about our families and look at the pictures you sent. We want them to know they are important to God, their family and to us. You will notice that your kiddos have a stamp on their right hand. (It might be gone before they get home, depending on how much water we use that day!) We are working on right and left hand practice with the Pledge of Alligience.
PreK parents don't be disappointed if you aren't seeing tons of work coming home. We do a lot of work and put it in our binders for safe keeping. You will see the binders later in the year and you will be amazed!
PreK classes will meet their fourth grade buddies in September and we will continue our friendship throughout the year. This is an awesome program to help the kids make connections.
Tues./Thurs. children will spend time with jr. high classes who will read stories and engage them with story line recollection and basic comprehension. It is a win win for both groups.

God In Our Lives
Our number one goal with our religion classes is to teach that Jesus will always be our best friend and God is love. If you ask your children later on in the year who my best friend is...I'm pretty sure they will either say themselves or Jesus!
We will do our fair share of religious themed crafts, but practicing love, kindness and peace through our actions and expectations are where the real lessons lie.
PreK Speech Evaluations
During the two weeks of 9/25-10/6, Natalie Scheibler will do a speech/language evaluation on the PreK children. We will be sending home detailed information regarding the results in October. We are always excited and proud that we offer this free service. Natalie Scheibler graduated with an undergraduate degree from Purdue University in Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences, as well as a Master's Degree from the University of Cincinnati in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She is currently employed at St. Andrews, but has years of experience with children. The feed back you will receive will indicate anything from no issues at all, to maybe working on a few sounds, to possibly getting some outside help.
Zoophonics
We will introduce the alphabet using a program called Zoophonics. Each letter is assigned an animal, a signal, and a sound. We emphasize learning the lowercase lettters since 90% of what we read and write is in lowercase letters. We work the alphabet from Aa-Zz, staying on each letter for a week (expect Aa which gets two weeks.) We will be sending home a hard copy alphabet grid soon. We encourage you to display it on the fridge and use a highlighter to color each letter as we complete that week.

Allie a. Alligator
Bubba b Bear
Bubb b Bear is a charming character that loves honey! That is how he got his Big, Brown, Belly!! For snack this week we will have buttered bread and bananas. (not on the same day!) We will keep with the letter Bb theme through religion. The Tues/Thurs children will learn the song, “His Banner Over Me is Love” as well as the B I B L E along with a craft. The PreK children will learn about Baptism and visit the Baptismal font at church. We will be outside blowing bubbles as much as we can!
Catina c Cat
We talk about Catina c Cat and how important it is that she keeps her face clean...just like us when we eat. We talk a lot about manners of all kinds at our school. For this week our morning activities include cutting coupons and tracing the word coupon. If you could send in your unused coupons for us to cut we would really appreciate it. The Prek classes will talked about being "rooted in Christ" as we learn about how carrots grow. If we can squeeze it for the Tues/Thursday kids we will paint with baby carrots! Carrots with ranch dip and Cheerios will be on the snack menu.
DeeDee d Deer
Doughnuts are a really big deal during Dd week! Weather permitting the PreK kids will field trip down to Schmidts Bakery to tour the facility. And of course there will be some doughnut eating involved! We will get out the dinosaur play sets as well as our dino books. In religion we will talk about Daniel and the Lions Den and David and Goliath.
