Summer school applications due April 17; online registration now available
The Harrisonville School District will be offering summer school to students entering grades K-6. Summer School is set for June 10-28. The district will run bus routes to centralized pick-up and drop-off locations based on enrollment.
Incoming kindergarten students will go to Summer School at Harrisonville Early Childhood Center from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. Kindergarten students can be picked up at the centralized bus locations, but after-school busing for kindergarteners will only be to the Harrisonville Community Center and approved local daycare centers. All other students must be picked up at ECC.
Incoming 1st-6th Graders will attend Summer School at McEowen; the hours are 8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
The Community Center will once again offer after-school care for a fee. The district will provide transportation to the Center.
The high school will be offering several online opportunities during June.
Enrollment information is coming home with elementary students this week. You can complete the paper application or you can register online at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScK-gg6Lrz9-QKM_-ePMuEMHv2a1-1vxxwFpMuPxLQtaEidUg/viewform. Completed paper forms are due back by April 17.
Kindergarten enrollment for 2019-20 now underway
Harrisonville Early Childhood Center is making kindergarten enrollment easier with information, enrollment packets, videos and appointment scheduling all online.
Parents of 2019-20 Harrisonville Schools kindergarten students can access enrollment information and videos and schedule their kindergarten enrollment/screening appointment at www.harrisonvilleschools.org; click on Kindergarten Enrollment for 2019-20.
Families who do not have Internet access or have additional questions can visit Harrisonville Early Childhood Center, 500 Polar Lane, to pick up an enrollment packet, ask questions, and sign up for a screening appointment. The school is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Enrollment and screening for Harrisonville kindergarten students for the 2019-20 school year, will be held April 29-May 3 at the Early Childhood Center. Parents can call the Early Childhood Center, 380-4421, to schedule an appointment if they are unable to sign up online.
To be eligible for kindergarten, children must be five years of age before July 31, 2019 and must live in the Harrisonville school district. Parents must bring a certified copy of the child’s state issued birth certificate and his/her current immunization records to enrollment. The parent/guardian should also bring his/her driver’s license. A proof of residency such as a current utility bill will be required in August.

- Thank you to Vanessa Hargrave for all she has done & continues to do to ensure our children are taken care of over the summer months! Another amazing fundraiser for the Harrisonville Just4Me summer food program took place on Saturday raising over $10,000 for the program. Thanks to all who helped in planning & organizing the Boots & Pearls Adult Prom and to all who attended & supported the event!

Blue barrels are located at all district schools and the following community locations - Cass County Public Library, Commerce Bank, Community Bank of Harrisonville, Cornerstone Community Church, Harrisonville Community Center, Crossroads Assembly, Heartland Baptist, Harrisonville Church of the Nazarene, Harrisonville United Methodist Church, Schroeder Chiropractic, Quality Auto Service & Repair, The Vault, and Brick House Coffee Bar and Eatery.

District Points of Pride
Four Cass Career Center DECA members brought home top finishes from state competition and two are headed to international competition in Orlando in late April. Madison Barnes earned fifth place in Hotel and Lodging Management and Amy Tracy placed in the top 10 in Hotel and Lodging Management while Ethan Danner and Michael Schuhler were in the top 10 for Business Services Operations Research at the State DECA Conference, March 24-26 at Crown Center in Kansas City. Barnes and Tracy qualified for and will travel to Orlando, Florida to compete at the International Career Development Conference April 26-May 1.
Twenty-two Harrisonville High School students earned top ratings at district music contest and will travel to State contest later this spring. Earning “Exemplary” ratings on instrumental solos were Taylor Kelley, Trinity Register, Mary O'Reilly, Alex Sheldrake, Kenna Hawley, and Landen Laizure. Vocal soloists earning “Exemplary” ratings included Zach Austin, Rebekah Bartlett, Peyton Goss, Peyton Holden, Skylar Lite, Madeline McGee, Carolyn Schrock, and Izabelle Shaddox. Groups honored with an “Exemplary” rating were a saxophone trio composed of Jill Bachman, Caitlyn Costner, and Kaitlin Sheldrake; a women’s trio including Maizy Szudarski, Briana Chiodini, and Lily Maxwell; and a men’s trio composed of Peyton Holden, Alek Baker, and Zach Austin. These students will perform at the State Music Contest in Columbia on April 27.
Ten FFA members from the Cass Career Center recently won 1st in their respective categories at the Area FFA Contest and Banquet held March 26th in Clinton, MO. In all, thirty-three students were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments in their Supervised Agricultural Experience Projects, prepared speeches, and recordkeeping abilities. Students competed against twenty-four other schools in the Area. The banquet was organized and led by nine Area FFA Officers from throughout west central Missouri. One of those officers was Michelle Marrs of Harrisonville, who served as the Area Reporter for the past year. Fifteen Cass Career Center students were recognized by placing with their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Projects. Winning first were: Britini Bronson in Ag Sales, Hailey Brunner in Food Services, Lauren Burlingame in Home/Community Development, Hannah Dinges in Wildlife Management, Clint Howser in Goat Production, Ethan Inman in Forest Management, Michelle Marrs in Specialty Animal Production, Harley Sipple in Equine Science Ownership, and Meadow Vassar in Vegetable Production. Placing second in their SAE categories were: Caroline Campbell in Ag Mechanics, Brent Craig in Equine Science Placement, Jared Ford in Poultry Production, Madison Hoffman in Ag Education, and Dylan Young in Oil Crop Production. Placing third was Maecy Claiborne in Diversified Ag Production. Four students also took their financial recordbooks, kept on their SAE Projects. Junior Jackson Fogle from Peculiar placed 1st with his Beginning Ownership book, while Harrisonville Freshman Hayden Zaroor-Guzman placed 3rd with his Beginning Placement book. Harrisonville Senior Hailey Brunner placed 5th in the Complete Placement book and Junior Keigan Rowe placed 3rd in the Complete Ownership book. Four Harrisonville students placed 6th in the FFA Knowledge Contest. Venessa Butler, Reid Craven, Logan Quinley, and Amy Rhodes will compete at the District level in this contest. Shelbe Dishong placed 4th in the FFA Creed Speaking Contest. Ethan Kohl placed 2nd in the Job Interview Contest. Lee’s Summit Junior Caitlin Vento placed 3rd in the Prepared Public Speaking Contest. Dishong, Kohl, and Vento will advance to districts. Lee’s Summit High School graduate Andrew White was awarded the prestigious Area Star in Ag Placement award for his employment at Sydenstricker John Deere and Tractor Supply Company of Lee’s Summit. Harley Sipple was sworn in as the Area VII Treasurer for the 2019-2020 year. Additionally, Hailey Brunner, Michelle Marrs, Harley Sipple, Savannah Timmons, Andrew White, Caitlyn Wimsatt, and Dylan Young accepted their Area FFA Degree.

- Harrisonville is once again part of the Sonic Locker Room Radio Show. Each week, a district activity is spotlighted on the show which airs at 4:45 p.m. on Monday on 1030 AM. All shows are also archived online at www.soniclockerroom.com for the year. This week's show focuses on girls soccer with Coach Coleman and players Brecken Moreland, Trinity Register & Jiana Shrock.
- Our students' artwork is displayed each month through the Art in the Community program. The artwork can be viewed at Country Club Bank (S. Commercial location), the Cass County Public Library, Community Bank of Harrisonville (291 Hwy), Commerce Bank, Brick House Coffee Bar & Eatery, Schroeder Chiropractic, the Chamber of Commerce, and the District’s Administrative Office Lobby and Board of Education Room (503 S. Lexington).

HMS at Literature Festival
Harrisonville Middle School eighth grade students in Ms. Thomas’ classes had the opportunity to meet and listen to young adult authors during a recent field trip. The students attended the Children’s Literature Festival at the University of Central Missouri over spring break. The students heard from Gary Schmidt, Paul Griffin, Adib Khorram, Avi, and Tiffany D. Jackson. They also had the chance to talk one-on-one with the authors and take a few photos.
Speak Hard Conference
Harrisonville High School SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) officers attended the 15th Annual Speak Hard Conference in Jefferson City on March 14. The conference brought together more than 300 students from across the state. The students spent the day collaborating with their peers and learning more about issues such as bullying, suicide prevention, teen dating violence, vaping, distracted driving and more. They keynote speaker at the event was Esteban Gast who spoke about finding your story and living it. HHS students also had the opportunity to speak with Representations Donna Pfautsch and Patricia Pike, both former teachers of the Harrisonville School District. Students attending included Emma Parker, Maddie Hoffman, Ana Owen-Gonzales and Chloe Spencer. They were accompanied by SADD sponsor Roseann Hoffman.
