Overcome
According to The Power of Bad, we tend to focus on the bad, even in the face of a lot of positive things. According to authors John Tierney & Roy Baumeister, once we recognize our negativity bias, the rational brain can overcome the power of bad. Instead of despairing at what’s wrong, you can see how much is going right—and how to make it still better. The takeaway - Aim to please more, and say less. Also, hear less.

Staff Credits
This week it has been all about the snow, cancellations, and how to get back & forth, people have shared their appreciation with Public Works, so I've included just a few comments:
- Love people who go that extra mile! Judy Burgess -- Love this town! Robin Wilkins
- Thank you to the City for doing such a Great job on our roads! Amber Mills Borchert
- They've done a fantastic job clearing roads, it takes lots of time to get it done. I feel we are very fortunate to have such great road crews, I tip my hat to them. Job well done guys. Dennis Dunkle
- Quick shout out to (snowplow driver), he got out, shoveled out neighbor's car, & helped her pull it into her driveway before finishing his job. Way to do a great job & keep everyone safe!!! Chelsey Henderson
Key Project Updates
- Excelsior Springs Opportunity Zone featured in statewide MML Magazine, directs interested parties to www.excelsioropp.com for more info. WHY? Marketing/educational opportunity.
- Senator Blunt's Staff & Senior SBA staff visit to hear about positive business/development activities and needs; Blunt is supporting the renewal of NMTC legislation which will benefit development. WHY? Positive attention boosts activity & interest in community.
- KC Cannabis Co. was awarded a medical marijuana dispensary license @ former Brown's Pharmacy storefront in Crownhill Shopping Center. Sales likely won't start until summer. [Revenue: GF, TT, CIP, PSST, Community Center] WHY? Two viewpoints in play - proximity to those with medical need vs. concerns over social impacts from abuse.
- Political signs are exempt from sign ordinance as long as signs are on private property with owner's permission & don't obstruct line-of-sight.
- City/School District engage in traffic planning to address ped/vehicular flow around new school site & west side schools; traffic studies completed; assessing external funding sources. WHY? Need to identify needed improvements and seek funds to solve.
Choose Your Attitude!
If you are visiting the area and like to take home some of the place you see this is a great stop along the way. Fantastic selection of wine and local spirits, crafts and other local foods can be located in the store on the first floor. Then wander to the basement for a great meal. I was there for lunch and ate a wrap, salad and soup which were filling, tasty and fresh. TripAdvisor.com Reviews. hckayaker Ottawa, Canada, November 2019
