Health Office News
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work to maintain safe and healthy school environments during this challenging time. Symptom screening has been an important part of our safety protocols during the coronavirus health crisis.
Symptoms of COVID-19 may include:
- Major symptoms: feeling feverish, temperature of 100.4 or greater, loss of taste or smell, new or unexplained persistent cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.
- Minor symptoms: sore throat, runny nose or congestion, muscle or body aches, headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
If your student is exhibiting one of these symptoms, he/she will need to switch to a fully remote learning environment utilizing the district’s synchronous learning model at their school.
This guidance only applies to students who have had no known contact with anyone who has been diagnosed or identified as having COVID-19. If your child has a known contact of someone with COVID-19 or has tested positive for COVID-19, please contact your school nurse as soon as possible.
- Any student who has a new loss of taste or smell must isolate for 10 days.
- If you have a fever and any other major symptom that does not resolve in 24 hours, you must follow home isolation instructions and remain out of school for at least 10 days, unless you have a negative COVID-19 test and your major symptoms have resolved.
- If you have only minor symptoms that resolve within 48 hours, you may return to school. If not, you will need to follow home isolation instructions and remain out of school for 10 days unless you have a negative Covid test.
If your symptoms do not resolve within 24-48 hours please notify your school Health Clerk before you return to school.
Home Isolation: Stay home for 10 days following symptom onset AND 24 hours fever free without the use of fever-reducing medications AND improved symptoms.
Free and low-cost COVID-19 testing is widely available throughout Boulder and Weld Counties, including at the Innovation Center of St. Vrain Valley Schools. Any staff member or student who has been required to quarantine is strongly encouraged to be tested 7-14 days after their initial exposure. Register for testing at our Innovation Center site at https://covidcheckcolorado.org .
Again, thank you for your continued support as we navigate the complexities of the coronavirus pandemic and ensuring the safety of our community. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your school nurse or your building principal directly.

Mrs. Shaffer’s STEM Update
Welcome back! I’m excited we have so many students back in our building ready to learn, grow, and play! This week and next, I’ll be going into classrooms in grades 3-5 for our STEM time to guide students as we continue to work on coding and digital citizenship skills. For our students who are remaining virtual, I have put activities in both Seesaw and Schoolgy for them to access. When coming to school, students should continue to bring their iPads as we use them throughout the day. If your child is in grade 3, 4, or 5, please have them download the Nearpod app from Self Service if they don’t already have it. We will be working with it next week. Starting January 19th, I’ll be rotating back to work with our K-2 students. They will need the Scratch Jr. app on their iPads, which is also available from Self Service. If students have any questions about STEM, I’ll be opening up Office Hours on Webex on Fridays at 11am. My room number is 801329796.
STEM this summer....You may have noticed information about Camp Invention in the newsletter as well. We will be bringing this program back to Longmont Estates June 7th-11th, 2021. Hopefully we’ll be able to gather in person, but there will be a virtual option if that isn’t possible. Check out the link for more information.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
